D'uccle Thread

Hi everyone- I just have a few more questions about my D' Uccles and figured i would ask here, instead of keeping it going on the "what breed/gender" thread. Thanks everyone for your help! Yes, they are young (was told 10 weeks when I got them about three weeks ago) the roo was just starting to crow- he's definitely got that down. Also, I don't think they are of the greatest quality as 1) they were just given to me and 2) they do not have feathering on all their toes (unless that doesn't happen until they get older?) - going from the outside in, the two inside toes have no feathers (some its just the innermost toe that is bare). Do you think the age is right? (somewhere around 13 weeks).

Heres new pics of WC my cream/lemon MF boy...and yet again he refuses to cooperate w/me on pose (booger head he is!) Anyway his foot feathers are regrowing from freeranging (all of them are as we just put them in building a couple days ago), but at lease his color and beard are coming in much nicer than I expected tho, so far

Thanks Deb, he's filling out a LOT nicer than I expected, and you can see how much he's matured from the other pics posted a few pages back. Those were taken a couple months ago. Love your avatar...I got a soft spot for Favs as well

Hi mick,
Actually IMO, there are other reason for considering the "quality" of your birds rather than those you list. First, I personally have given away a number of young birds with show potential because I had too many birds when family problems had come up, making it impossible for me to take care of them properly; so receiving a free bird doesn't always mean that it's a cull and/or worthless. I even find myself in this position right now. I place the importance of a good home over money (That's a whole other issue). Second, the feathers on their feat sounds fine, d'Uccle are only supposed to have feathering to the outside of the middle toe. I can't tell a lot from the just one picture of each because they may have been caught in a posture or position that isn't normal for them. However, based on what I can see I would be more concerned about their top line. On your little hen that I can see the best, she has a rather pronounced hump or rounding of her back and I'm not sure about her wings, but unless she has just flapped them and hasn't repositioned yet, she appears to have something going on with them that might be a problem, i.e., split wing, significant scissor wing, I just can't tell for sure. About your roo, mostly what I can see about him is his stance/top line. The d'Uccle are supposed to have a V shaped top line when viewed from the side. I don't know if that makes any sense to you. It means the tail should be carried at about 45 degrees, I think. (Folks correct me if my angle is wrong) and the head/neck should be carried at the same angle as the tail (of course reversed) thereby forming the V.
As far as age, I can't really tell for sure. I'd say they could easily be 3+months. You'll find that their coloring will change significantly after their first molt and second molt.
Of course it goes without saying that I'm sure they are sweet and they can bring you many years of enjoyment and entertainment.
d'Uccle are a gas.

I am definitely interested. I have been drooling over the lemons since I first saw them. Please keep me in mind for spring after BBB gets their eggs.

What are his genetics? I see you said he is cream/lemon mf. Could I breed pullets from him with my goldneck?
