D'uccle Thread

Thank you for the size comparison to a robin. I had already looked up their desired weight, but that doesn't truely tell you much about their actual size when looking at them. But thank you guys. In other words, they're probably not going to get much bigger than they are now. Which makes me happy cause they're the perfect size to sleep in my hands haha.

Sofarabbit - LOVELY hens :) spoiled is good.

Ditto on the heat lamp - even ones that are well installed can drop and cause fires .... I have no electric/heat ... nothing in my coop now. As long as the cheeps are sheltered from wind and wet - they should do fine ....

Can someone tell me more about blue mille fleur colororation? I have a basic understanding of blue coloration, that it does not breed true, so half will be blue, a quarter black, and a quarter splash. How does this work when combined with the mille fleur color? Are half of the birds blue, a a quarter normal mille, and a quarter spalsh mille ? (what would that even look like?) Anyone have any pictures or insight?

blue mottled X mille fleur= 50% blue mille, 25% black mottled with gold leakage?

blue mille X mille fleur= 50% blue mille, 50% regular mille

blue mille X blue mille= 50% blue mille, 25% regular mille, 25% splash mille (golden neck)

So if you order blue mille fleurs from a hatchery you'll get blue millies, regular millies, and golden neck? I did not know golden neck was the splash of the blue mille fleur coloration!

QuoVadis, golden neck is splash mille fleur :) you'd have to ask the hatchery, because they could have a set up with only golden neck roosters over mille fleur hens so there are only blue mille

So golden neck over normal mille split to blue, produces all blue? But golden neck breeds true though, right? So if you order golden neck, or breed golden neck to golden neck you get only golden neck?
