D'uccle Thread

It's me again with the rooster with the red irritated fethers on his feet. I read a post where tall grass can cause foot feather irritation. His coop was moved to the back field in early November. The back field has grass that is pretty high. With the first frost the grass flopped over but I can see how he would have a difficult time and get tangled in the grass. I plan on moving the coop tonight. Please let me know if anyone has seen this before.
You might get more answers about this in the disease and injury section. But good luck and hopefully his foot gets better!

My boys feather ends look the same, I noticed when I was bathing him. There is nothing wrong with mine. Yours may be molting, they are uncomfortable when the new feathers are coming in

Thank you both for the replies. Being new to chickens, I know I'm overreacting. My husband looked at me like I was crazy when I was calling vets to see if they would look at my rooster. I bathed his feet this morning and he does seem to be doing better. My mille hens shed a few under feathers in October but nothing like some of the pictures I see posted on full blown molts. You are probably correct that since he's not yet a year old yet that he is going thru his first molt. It just pains me to see him suffering.

K Epp, Congratulations! looking forward to pics!

I stopped by the county ext agency and they affirmed that the Epsom salt bath and neosporin treatment was the way to go. The only other suggestion was to keep him dry for about 3 days. I had been hesitant to separate him from the hens but I think what I'll do is bring him and the two 4-month old silkies in the garage for the weekend and see how they do since once again it is supposed to rain the entire weekend. I inspected his feet last night and he is looking better.
