D'uccle Thread

Well this morning just proved that you never know what you will get when hatching chicks. I had a chick from 2 black d'uccle parents hatch out that is blue mottle. How did this happen ? I can guarantee that no other rooster got in the pen and I don't even have a blue mottle (til now !) I do suspect the rooster comes from a mottle background. He has a white wing tip and a white spot on one foot. It's just the blue color that has me puzzled. I wonder if I'm ever going to understand color genetics.

both the parants carry the mottleing gene. my guess is that one or both have blue somewheres in their background

from my blue/mille fleur eggs that hatched my oldest is getting barred feathering!!!I'm so excited I am one step closer to getting my pied project going.I also found out that it is possibly carrying a pied gene along with my other two.Just need a bird with a double white gene and I will have enough to get started!!!

Cool beans!

I'm going to be culling those mille fleur and mottled d'uccles, so if anyone wants them, let me know. I can probably fit three cockerals, or a bunch more youngsters in a box. At this point, I am only getting rid of cockerals. Just pay for box and shipping.

Quote: I was trying to get you a pic, but my phone died right in the middle of the picture taking. I thought the same thing you did, I have no lavenders or self blue. My pens are set up up with (1) Mille Fleur Rooster over 2 Mille Fleur hens and a splash hen. (2) Black Mottled Rooster over 1 Blue Mottled and 2 Black Mottled (no eggs since November) the blue mottled was under my Blue Mille Fleur in November (it is possible she throw it as it was a Christmas hatch) (3) Blue Mille Fleur Rooster over 3 Mille Fleur hen. I have not got any eggs since I did the News Day hatch and I hatched all of the. I also got a very yellow chick during that Christmas hatch. I had just added the splash right before that. So I have some Yellow chicks with no black at all. Almost gold, I need some pics of Golden Neck chicks between 4 and 6 weeks old anyone have any?
just wanted to share this pic of my 2nd gen silkie mix only one i got out of my trio before the roo was killed by dogs

I got a weird combo also. Solid blacks, golden, and the lavender one. Go figure. Mine Mille Roo does have Mottled in him from his father, will that affect my Mille pen?

Okay after getting a picture and looking at it. I can now say that it is NOT lavender or self blue, but a little Blue Mille Boy
