Yes, the vulture hocks either shorten or disappear, most of the foot feathering stays, but goes on the middle toes. You know what is hard to get rid of? The black silkie skin. I'm on F2 /F3 generations and still the black skin remains.

My latest little fuzzy butts. I can see either the pumpkin or silver and one has the dun, according to down color. It is the pale version, so I'm sure there's a second diluter in that one. The little muffs are there!

Thanks! I love them and the way they come running up to talk to you when they see you. I generally like my geese and ducks more than chickens, but the d'uccles are different lol, and I wish I would have gotten them sooner.

Just wanted to give an update and a hint for these nice people on this thread who helped me decide on a brinsea octo 20. I currently have 13 standard eggs and 13 bantam eggs, totaling 26. The max is 20-24 eggs, so I crammed them in as close as possible, turning some large end up instead of on their side. To fill in the gaps and make them secure for turning the incubator, I filled in the gaps with packing peanuts. It made them secure and tight as a bug in a rug. I will post the results of the hatch in 21 days! Hopefully my new packing method will prove fruitful. Kust wanted to share my little idea!

Do you dry hatch? I did the first (*and only*) time I used it. I live in NC where its been very rainy and wet lately so humidity is pretty high. Hopecit works out with a good hatch rate this time!

does anyone else think that faverolles would be good in d'uccle breeding for new colors?I think they have 5 toes though which is a dominant trait so it would be harder to get rid of.Do the vultur hocks disapear easily?I have never crossed my d'uccles with any other breed.

5 toes are easy to lose. i have 2nd generation d'uccle/silkie mixes that only have the 4 toes. the roo has normal skin color while the hen has black
