D'uccle Thread

I've done the self blue/mille cross and have gotten self blue, black (most with gold bleed through) and porcelain. Don't know what the other cross will do.

I try to keep my varieties separated - a porcelain pen, a mille fleur pen, etc.

When I have mixed the varieties (a mille roo over porcelains, self blues), I've hatched some interesting colors, but then realize I have nothing I can use them for in breeding.

And the cockerels are really hard to get rid of :)

well, i have a trio of mille fleurs and 6 eggs on the way so i'm hoping to get a start on these fine little bantams. just wanted to stop in and say "hey" from NC. hope all of you have a great year and produce many little "peeps"....

What colors of these birds are accepted
Copied From The Bantam Roost:

"The recognized varieties (colors) are: Black, Blue, Buff, Golden Neck, Gray, Mille Fleur, Mottled, Porcelain, Self Blue, and White. There are also many nonrecognized varieties called AOV (Any Other Variety). For a description of type and color pattern consult either the ABA (American Bantam Association) or the APA (American Poultry Association) Standard."

Question about genetics.
I put one of my Mille cockerels in a breeding pen with a white hen. What colors will I get? Plan on trying to hatch a few.

depends on what they white is covering up. Recessive white is just a mask covering the true color underneath. In d'anvers that I have it's usually just over black, so it's breeds just like you are breeding to a black bird. I bet it's the same in d'uccles.
if so you will get blacks split for mottled, rec. white , and will carry buff columbian. when you back cross those chicks you will get black mottled, and more millies, and a possible buff columbian or two if they dont get the mottled gene.

Being yall have dominate white in d'uccles from the presence of goldnecks, there is an outside chance you may have a solid dominate white bird, very slim chance, but it's there. If so you'll be working on just goldnecks in the long run, well those and white tailed buff columbians. but all that would be in the second generation due to the fact that mottling is recessive.

Hope that may have helped a bit. You'll know right off if you get any white chicks. If you do, it's dominate white, if they are all black, it's recessive white...
