D'uccle Thread

Hello there...I am new to raising chickens and to this website. Still trying to learn how to navigate. I have 5 chicks...now about 11 weeks old or so. I have one Mille Fleur D'uccle that is supposed to be a hen (i got her from a local breeder) but I am not sure. I've been scouring this site looking at photos and I'm worried I might have a rooster. Can any of you more experienced folks take a look and let me know? Here are a couple of current photos. She should be between 11 and 12 weeks old now. The last photo below (on the right) is a couple of weeks ago but it was the most recent I had of her standing.

Can you tell from these photos? Thanks so much in advance!

Hello all. New chicken person here and I though I would share a couple photos of my newly acquired D'uccle's.
I traded my meanie cockerel sebright and his two cute girls(for breeding) for these two cuties. They are the same age as my others (I have 3 buff Brahmas remaining) who are four months. The new ones might be a tad older.

A couple things...One is that they said they were both pullets but I am now thinking ha one is a Roo! Also what is up with the trim on the one that looks like a Roo. The people I got them from clipped them because they just had a five foot fence, I get that! What I don't understand is why on the one they also clipped the hock feathers and the boots! Will it grow back?? The little pullet only has the wing feathers clipped. Those do grow back, right?

Look at his poor legs, feathers all cut off

Those waddles make me think Roo?

The pullet in the front has all her hock and leg feathers.

What do you think of their coloring?

Sorry, I think they are both males. Coloring: Not bad...but since Millie's take especially long to develop coloring I don't really know.

Don't quite know...it would be helpful if you could take a pic of hackle and saddle feathers would be helpful.

Well I am going to keep hoping that one is a pullet. I guess we will know soon enough.

What of the excessive leg trim? Do you think someone just got carried away with the scissors?

That is pretty odd-you would think they would want to keep their birds in good show condition- even the wing clipping is not normal. They probably did go crazy-even though the wing clipping was for flying purposes, I have never seen it....

I have a feeling they didn't know what they were doing. They don't show I am sure. It is just a family raising some chicks with their kids for fun.
Will they grow back? Gosh I hope
So! The poor things are a mess!

I wonder if its feet feathers got clogged up with mud and they cut them. With all this rain I've had to wash mines off a time or two. If I'm not mistaken they should grow back after it molts.

That is a little cockerel. Poor thing, looks like he's a cross beak.
