D'uccle Thread

I am just getting around to checking forums and such.... MStricer, I loaned my incubator out, and not planning to hatch any more for a while, BUT perhaps in spring when I am getting that itch to put eggs in for hatching, I will look you up! I love the three boys I got from your eggs, and they are the most sweet little cockerels ever.

For the question about roos/cockerels getting along, I have three in a run with four Serama pullets and a naked neck girl. They are only going on 4 months old, so they're not too "active" yet, but I don't forsee any issues with keeping them together. I am going to move the guys into a bachelor run after this show coming up next week, so we shall see how heartbroken they are to lose their little flock of girlies. They seem to be a very mellow breed, so I don't think keeping boys together would be an issue

not cyanide?

I have seen so many other posters who didn't have issue, i just got lax. I tried treating for cyanide poisoning. He's through the poison, just weak and not doing really well.
I'm glad he's doing better. That's it cyanide.... I have been working everyday all summer with only a few days off and 12 hr shifts my brain is fried. 6 days until vacation 10 days of nothing but cleaning house, coops and laying sand out, oh yeah and sleeping in

my d'uccle cockerel is my absolute favorite! I can pick him right up and kiss on him. He's so cute! He has started crowing and it's loud enough! our neighbors are super close and I hope it doesn't bother the guy.

I didn't read who all answered as far as pullet but mstricer (I got my 3 from her) has a pullet that has a pretty large comb. So, you could have a pullet. Not sure if she answered or not.
Good ole Sassy. Yes my Blue Mottled hen has a large comb. But no wattles, the one of those pictures the cockerel (for sure) has a odd shaped comb.

Yes I will have eggs in the spring. I will probably be getting a few new pullets and I'm looking for a Mille roo and a Black roo at Ohio National Poultry show 2 1/2 months and counting.

The seeds in apples have small traces of stricnine (miss spell) in them

Actually apple seeds contain small amounts of Cyanide not Strychnine. The seeds contain such a small amount that a bird would have to eat a large number of seeds to be harmed. The seeds from a single apple wouldn't be enough.

I am trying to understand the different looks between the d'uccle pullets. I have been looking at a lot of pictures on the Internet and some have combs and some don't. I also see different shaped combs. It doesn't matter to me if mine look a little wrong because they are just pets. I have no intention of breeding or showing. I am just curious what they should look like. They all look beautiful to me.

Here are my three D'Uccle boys, in all their molting glory (seriously... they are dropping tails right before next weeks show. Gonna look like rumpless D'Uccles)

These guys are still just under 4 months old, so very much babies.

Myles (the blue mille fleur)

Marquis (black mottled)

Marceau (black mottled) and his friend Mercedes (Serama) in the background

Such personalities too! I go out and if I do ANYthing they disapprove of, they growl/screech at me. Just like grumpy old men complaining. But they are super sweet. I have to keep them off my feet when I go into the run to feed and such :D
