D'uccle Thread

Based on my little experience with 6 of them this spring - it is a male.

My hen doesn't have nearly close to that pronounced red or largeness. 5 of the 6 turned into roos with different sizes of combs - all had deep ridges like are on that one - my hen as a small comb but with shallow ridges. Of course, they can all be different - but my roos got brighter red as they grew - but the size was the teller for me.

so no takers on the spangle genetics question? I'm thinking it's a win-win situation if it would work. I could get mahogony into the d'uccles, and porcelain in the big birds?

I'm breeding a lemon spangled hamburg with my d'uccles to get the lemon, but so far, there haven't been any spangled OR spotted babies. The mottling takes an extra 2-3 breedings to get the fleurs back, but I'm not sure about the spangled gene. wish I could help.

I thought the same thing too. I liked the spangled gene because it was much cleaner than the millie fleuring we strive for. Doesn't mean we can't use it. I say go for it and see if it cleans up the fleurettes.

I currently have a speckled sussex hen (standard size) that my porcelain d'uccle roo has taken a shine to. I had wondered what would happen if i let them cross and got the porcelain color in the large breed, and the mahogany color in the d'uccle breed. But i thought both the patterns were the same.

how many generations if i mix the two patterns then, anyone else try? And when you start mixing does the lav color show itself without the wheatish color? I like lemon blue color and had wondered if impure crosses showed darker feather colors with the lav pattern. (i like the blue, but it gets splash and whatnot.)

Hi,
Just separated out my mille fluers (1 roo and 3 hens) into a breeder pen. I would like to give him at least 1 or 2 more hens. I have an assorted flock to pick from. A big 2 1/2 lb serama type roo over 3 EE, 1 black lace wyandot,1 Dominique,1 white leghorn,1 speckled Sussex,1 wellsummer,1 red frizzle Cochin,1 white silked Cochin, 1 white silkie, and 2 polish. Any ideas on what 2 hens would make good mixed mutts. I was thinking the leghorn and 1 other but can't decide which one.
