D'uccle Thread

Tell me again that my little D'uccle will be fine when the temps drop below freezing tonight. She's in a open coop with closed roof, back and half of both sides. She shares this with 7 other bantam and two Large fowel chickens. She and 6 bantam sleep piled up in a 12x12 nestbox. She is so much smaller than the rest I worry about her and a frizzle silkie.
If they are piling in a nesting box, they all are not warm enough. My coops are all closed and I'm getting ready to shut pop doors and my close off front facing window.

I have the opposite experience - chickens of all sizes ... Coop has an entire side open and no heat or electric. Plus windows in all sides for ventation - and when I say windows - I means holes covered in hardware cloth.

Never lost a chicken to the cold. Keep them well fed

They have been piling up together since they were in the brooder together. They have slept like that all summer in the coop. They don't actually sleep on top of each other, but side beside. Every now and then I've had to run a turkey out of there at night because she has forgotten that she has out grown them.

ok, heres the pullet I got. She isreally sweet, well except for around 9pm she kept pecking my hand everytime I tried to touch her. Any opinions on her are appreciated, good or bad.

I like her tail span, the coloring is pretty

she dosent normally stick her chest this far out and usually holds her tail slightley higher.

thanks. for a small chicken she has got a whole lot of personality lol
I think usually bantams have more personality. Almost all the bantam breeds I've had I would have over again, but less than half the LF breeds I've had would I get over again! And d'uccles are the top of my list personality-wise!

I like some LF (EEs, Brahmas, Sussex, Australorps), but a lot of the breeds people typically rave about I haven't liked much. But I've liked every bantam I've ever had, in it's own way (D'Uccles, Sebrights, Cochin, Silkie, OEGB).

As of tomorrow from Privett I'll have three new breeds of bantams I've never tried before: Dutch, Pyncheon, and d'Anver.

And along with them I'll also be getting 9 new "assorted d'Uccles" - I'm excited to see what colors I end up with, because I've only had mille fleur. The possibilities are millies, porcelain, white, mottled, gold neck, or self blue. I really want some self blues!
