D'uccle Thread

It's my fault... I was responding to a picture a few pages ago... I thought it "quoted" the original post... I just gave my opinion on the pictures of the rooster that someone asked if he was a good breeding rooster... The above picture is of my Sons older breding rooster and a younger pair in the second picture ... Lol I made a mess of it...
But thank you... He is the nicest fellow as well... That picture was him winning best in show in the Michigan fowl fest.. He had many show wins... His daughter in the pair picture went on to be champion feather leg at many shows and a couple champion bantam as well... And he Also won best and reserve duccle at the ohio national this year !!! We love the Millie's !!! I will see if I have some better pictures up close !!!

I'll have to disagree. That top rooster is about as close to perfection as you can get.

edited to say- I THOUGHT THIS ROO WAS GETTING THE CRITIQUE. SORRY! GET A CLOSE-UP OF THIS ROO. OFTEN TIMES, PEOPLE ASK FOR SHOW QUALITY BIRDS AND HE IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHAT ALL BREEDERS OF D'UCCLES SHOULD STRIVE FOR!
Great to read this! I read the SOP but have so much trouble visualizing it, so it's great to see pictures. My current male won at the fair before I got him. By the time we got him he was getting to be an old man with lots of white, which makes it hard for comparison on my younger males. I've noticed that what I like is not necessarily how they should look. lol

Triplejfarm2 - do you happen to have anymore pictures of him that we could see?

We are getting them all ready for two shows in May... So we will be getting them all out and getting them fitted... So I will try to take pictures of some of the things to look for... I agree the Millie SOP is like reading the it's tax code... It makes no sense until you can See what they mean.. We have been lucky to spend lots of time with great breeders going over the specifics of how the feathers should line up.. The symmetry of the markings is a really big deal... They can't just be spangled like other breeds, they need to be orderly... Lol

Do you ever sell hatching eggs? Your son's flock is gorgeous! I'd love to have some good, quality Mille Fleurs.

We haven't.... But we can... We get TONS of eggs... It's been below freezing still here, so no broody hens... Usually we have about 5 hens sitting by now... We only have one right now.... Lol

Hopefully this picture p a hen works... If you look you can see the wing feathers all the spangles line up to make a stair step... And the coverts should line up to make 3 rows of white..

Another hen from the back... You can see the white ... but regardless of color... The conformation of the bird has to be there first !! They want SHORT stocky birds nice u in the back... Big beards... No wattles... And lots of middle toe feathers !!!!

HI everyone! I'm fairly new to breeding these guys and am currently working with my original SQ birds. Here is a male that I kept from last year - he'll be a year old in May. Can someone help me evaluate him according to SOP? Would he make a good candidate to use as a breeding male? (I want to learn, so I can handle the truth even if it hurts! :D ) Thanks in advance! "Eddie"
This was the original roo that I was critiquing ... Nice roster but for a young roo he might just need to grow more into himself...
