D'uccle Thread

My chickens and ducks will eat anything they can catch. Bugs, lizards, snakes, moles, mice. I cleaned out the refrigerator yesterday so they were very happy with left over hot wings, ground beef and crab.

As long as it's not bird I respect you giving them that!

My cat kills lizardsXD My chickens will wander the property in search of plants.

My cats kill and leave the snakes on my side walk. The chickens fight over who gets to eat it. I try to rescue anything alive. One of my husbands favorite story's to tell is the cat coming in with a alive bunny. Me and 20+ chickens, 2 turkeys, and 5 ducks chasing him all trying to get the rabbit. The goats were even in on it just because they thought what ever he had must gave been great. I've seen my chickens chase wild birds, but never seen them catch one.

My lazy, fat cat, Oscar, who is now in another home, sadly:(, caught a wild bird, first time!XD

A small 15" snake made the fatal mistake of slithering into the chicken run. Boy was that hen entertainment for the afternoon. I believe they ultimately devoured it as I haven't seen it since. When I discovered it initially, they'd pecked it's head off.
I rescued this hen in Dec. Any thoughts on what she is? No feathers on her legs.

Any one near Vermont ... I have 3 little ones who are 4 days old and eating and drinking well.

I'll keep them, but am switching away from them .... their parents are Millies ... but all 3 seem to have a porcelain look to them ?? Of course, they are just wee fuzzy babies right now.

Asking $6 for each chick ..... Also I really like the parents - but if you want them (and they are a proven pair -obviously) I will sell them for $15 for both.

Probably no one is close enough .... but just thought I'd put that out there on this thread - since I am changing my breed focus. Millie hen has been laying about 5 eggs a week ! Which I think is pretty good for her :)

My birds make it very clear that they LOVE meat .... so I give them all my left over meat.

Normally any health issues that come from meat consumption in our livestock is because they are fed bits that are too gross for even hotdogs ... they eat trashy parts and parts that have been contaminated on floors and such.

But good quality food that is human grade - I have no issues with feeding to my birds. I cook it all - and they make it clear it is by far their favorite - tells me their bodies are craving even more than I do happen to give them. That includes chicken. I don't eat much meat at all, so they don't get nearly enough to satisfy their craving. I tell them to go find bugs.

My chickens like to eat weeds and grass, but meat isn't close to their favorite, they like noodles.

Interesting ... my do eat weeds and grass - they also love any pasta - but go crazy for any meat ....

I am wondering if it is base mix of feed that contains differing levels of nutrients .... ?? That would make sense .... perhaps mine is more plant based or less protein and that is leading to the difference.

Mine also love shrimp, well, my ducks do, and shrimp shells.
