D'uccle Thread

I received this beautiful boy from another bycer, he is so beautiful- is there a way to tell age? What got me wondering is his lack of spurs? Does that happen often in duccles?
Or is he younger than either of us thought? He also has very small wattles-

He's absolutely gorgeous! Half millie-half gold neck. That's a one in a million chance because the white would have to have "holes" to allow the millie coloring to show thru. I would guess about a year oooorr really old.

you sure he isn't just a goldennecked like this guy?
-note he has black too, though yours seems to have blue not black. isn't the golden necked pattern the mille fleur pattern with the black knocked out?

I agree with Paris_r, he's a gold neck that has the "Holes", which allow his base color to come thru. Like an odd black feather, he just let a whole bunch of feathers thru. it also looks like he has dun, instead of blue. I think this bird has some different genes at play than in a normal d'uccle. It will be interesting to see what comes about. What hen did you breed him to and how do the chicks look.? Do you have pictures?

On the side note, he needs some groceries put in him. Perhaps check for worms?

None of my d'uccles carry spurs.

He is a blue mille his color isnt perfect but I do have 6 of his babies and 3 are blue mille also. Their color should be better.
i just think this guy is stunning- he is in etiquette school right now, right Lorie, very excitable- but i think he'll come around-

no spurs? i like this breed! LOL!

I am hoping to put him with this girl

This is an old pic of biscuit, she is laying now

another sample of 2014 hatchery stock D'ccles, this time from Welp. I ordered Black mottled, blues and regular mille fleurs. these were hatched 5/27 so they are 5 days old in these photos. most of my photos are large format and high res-so you can click on them to get better viewing.

start with the black mottleds-I ordered 10. I was VERY impressed with their confirmation (such as it is on a chick) ..big fluffy cheeks, all had feathering on second toe at least and most have heavy feathering and many to the 4th toe. 9 of the 10 were robust, and they are good sized chicks. the 10th one spent till the 4th day gasping non stop-??underdeveloped lungs? it has since calmed down and will drink but i have to keep an eye on it. (as of 6/1 it still has yet to eat on it's own that I can tell-crop is empty, I give it a liquid calorie booster)

i also ordered 5 normal mille fleurs-they look promising, very puffy cheeks and feet-none are w/o minimal feathering there too.

lastly i got 5 blue d'uccles. i would have to say i am between disappointed and very disappointed with them. they are small, dont have puffy cheeks, and one has no feathering on second toes-the rest minor feathering... two had leg spraddling issues, 1 has since resolved it, the other hasn't. they seem to be more aggressive (biting others beaks and legs more) but it seems it may be hunger driven since their crops are never full like the rest. they also seem prone to pasty butt.

this is the one with the spraddling issue-with me helping pose him. i tried to splint but he just kept falling over and giving up. i am hoping it will correct itself. they are on fine shaving bedding. This one died last night (5/31)
