D'uccle Thread

Woot chicks started hatching yesterday....i had a mix set of D'uccle, D'anver, silkie, and sizzle....when i left this morning i had 2 mille fleur D'uccles hatched, 1 mille fleur d'anver and 1 Sizzle today is offically day 21....i think i might have slow hatchers because of a power outages we had. still have quail d'anver, porcelain d'uccle, sizzle and silkie in as well as another batch that goes into lockdown today.

this chick above with the chipmunk pattern- i got one too! it turns out to look a lot like a mille fleur

first chick will be mostly black but probably have some brown leaking, third looks blue millie and last looks golden neck, but you will have to wait. after a while you will get a feel for what gets thrown. i am getting surprised , just this hatch all the sudden i am getting golden necks- i have not gotten them from these pens this whole spring but all of the sudden!

Awesome, thank you so much!

Is this little jerk a duccle or booted bantam? He has the napoleon complex and attacks everyone he sees... we find humor in it, because he only weighs 18oz, and it doesn't hurt, but scares the crap out of you when he slams you. He is low man on the totem pole and even the hens beat him up, so he takes it out on us... We normally grab him and carry him around when he attacks us, but a couple people kick him. .

We would love to rehome him if anyone wants him, only because we dont want someone to really hurt him. .. He is in buckd county pa.

He looks like a booted bantam to me. I hope you find a good home for him.

Is this a coloring that happens with mille fleur? She's pale yellow practically all over, but is getting dark feathers on her wings. So different than the other mille fleurs I've seen...

i have yet to get one like her, but juvenile colouration does not always carry over to adult. she looks like she is missing much of the red/brown hue so would be like a lemon colour_BUT--remember she will molt 3 times in her first year, and this is only the first 'coat'. if the genes for the brown pigment were producing little or even not producing (much is timing also) they may become active later on. this is possible, but the probability is you have a very pale chicken with probably normal black markings. many mille fleurs i see out there have VERY little black, even missing it or only having a shadow if it around the neck. it is good you can see it on the feet, wings and rump.

alas i found my good camera but the shutter button refuses to work UNLESS i have it in video mode and do a 'capture'....so here are better than cell phone pics but still not great pics of some of my april hatchlings. for some reason all of the sudden i am getting golden necks...the splash chicks are not project birds, they are pure bred but for some reason i am getting them-i think they are from the white hens and the red/brown roosters. this lot seems to have excellent feet! notice the mottled has mottled feet and beak too!

So interesting! Thank you!

I've had a couple like that, too. Including this hen, who is now one of my best hens coloring wise:

She's beautiful!

Let's keep in touch! I would love to buy some eggs for my incubator. I definitely want to keep her coloring good! Not wash her out. Plus her personality is so wonderful!

this one is a bit better. I'm not familiar with all the different colors. I just love her to piece and wonder if it's the breed or I just got a really sweet young lady?

I had a golden neck who was so sweet once =) and my porcelain is a darling but my mille is more standoffish but will follow me around lol Don't worry about the broody temper you'll get your sweet hen back when she's done raising chicks or you break her of the broodiness =)
