D'uccle Thread

So my sweet little baby has become aggressive over the last two days. I have eggs in her coop and she was on them this morning. I think she's trying to go broody. As I moved eggs out of nest and out right in front. She tucked all the eggs under her and did not lay yesterday.
I realize she could just be laying a egg. But wondering why she's so upset all the sudden? With past experience my upset hens turn into Broodys. Is this true for most hens?

I've noticed (in my flock) the growlers are better at mothering their hatches and are better protectors from the start =) good luck with her

Got this baby out of a group of straight run mixed bantams. What do you think? D'uccle? How long do I have to wait before I can find out if I have a pullet or roo? Thanks!

Yes, that looks like a Mille Fleur d'Uccle chick. It depends on the bird, with some you can tell gender after just a few weeks, but with others it can take a couple months.

I had a golden neck who was so sweet once =) and my porcelain is a darling but my mille is more standoffish but will follow me around lol Don't worry about the broody temper you'll get your sweet hen back when she's done raising chicks or you break her of the broodiness =)
I let her set on a few of her eggs and a few cochin. I have 3 broodys right now her, a Australorp ( I bought her and the Australorp together and they went broody 5 days appart from eachother) and a OEG who just finished raising her last chicks 2 months ago tops!

so it's really quite around here for a bit . I am not sure all her eggs are fertile so I'm starting up the incubator with just a 2-3 eggs just in case. She's by far the loudest broody ever! She doesn't want me to even open the coop. She got mad when I took her friend out yesterday so I had to put her back in. She's so smart. Compared to my standards. I'll be having chick galore in less then3 weeks. Plus I just happened to hatch out 10 EE's the timing of all three is crazy! I feel like broody dust got spread in my flock. Is it contagious?

is it just a given that d'uccles have shorter incubation times? i took mine off the rotator for lockdown today and one was 70% unzipped and peeping strong! i put them in on the 7th (late in the day).

My D'uccles have all hatched by day 19. I've had some shipped ones go until day 20 or 21 though
