D'uccle Thread

My Duccle eggs are on day 21 and there is no sign of them beginning to hatch. 5 are defiantly viable and looked ready to hatch when I candled them. Any advice would be helpful.

Question: Are bantams supposed to be better/worse/equal to LF in terms of how they generally do free-ranging?

I let my batam flock out for the first time today and they really seemed to enjoy it! Then I thought, on one hand they're tiny and agile and can fly better than LF. On the other, they're kinda bite-size if the situation arises.

Either way, they are SO freaking cute and I sometimes consider having bantams only. :)

I am planning on purchasing a few D'uccles this spring for showing, but I am confused as to which colors and traits are accepted by the APA. Are beards, muffs, and feathered legs all allowed? What is the difference between a d'Uccle, a Booted Bantam and a d'Anver? Are Black Mottled, Mille Fleur, Gold Necked, Porcelain, Self Blue and Blue Mille Fleur all allowed by the APA?

I LOVE d'uccles!!!had a porcelain hen that lived to be 14. The last year of her life, she was alone(her mate had died). I kept her in a HUGE dog crate in my basement and would sit with her every evening with a towel on my lap watching tv. She passed while in my lap March 2014. She was old but sweet and still feisty. Years earlier I had hatched 4 d'cycle eggs I had gotten from a friend. They were all "millies " also super cute and tons of personality. And as a kid I had a Millie hen named "Burt"!!!!

LF chickens are better to free range because they tend to be better foragers (because they are less ornamental) and they can't be carried away by hawks because they are too large.

The APA requires d'Uccles to have a beard, muffs, and feathered legs. A booted bantam is a beardless d'Uccle and a d'Anver is a closely related breed that does not have feathered legs. I believe all the varieties you listed are recognized.
