Just wanting to share the pics I took of my single D'uccle Speedy. He's all boy and considers himself the protector of the flock. Anytime I come in the coop to clean up/feed/water/change out ID bands, he'll do a predator alarm call all while watching me from the roosts. He was hatched Oct 14th, so 12 weeks old!!





ETA: yes, I do want more D'uccles when spring rolls around, we'll get more eggs to hatch, but for now look how cute he is!

He's a handsome boy! Those little roosters may be small, but they don't know it! Off topic: Is that Electronet fence in the back round?

Yes it is. We don't have it electrified currently because of all the snow. And Speedy has only walked thru it once, when he discovered the rest of the flock couldn't he hasn't done it again... that I know of anyhow lol. He may go exploring by himself, I don't know.

I'll share my story, I had a Cochin bantam hatch an egg, she didn't want the chick, I gave it to another Cochin bantam, who took it, a few days later my older d'uccle hen, who had been broody too, started shadowing them and eventually became a co-momma. The chick was confused but was raised by two moms.
