D'uccle Thread

Here is my only D'uccle, Patty (or Patrick) hatched on St. Patrick's day. The egg he/she hatched from was marked as blue. Is it too early to tell what color he/she will turn out to be? What is the difference between lavender and blue. He/she kind of looks lavender to me.

Thanks. Is lavender the same as blue genetically, or do 2 lavenders make lavender? I have eggs in the bator now that are lavender, mille fluer, porcelain, and mottled. I'm so excited to have more of these sweet little birds!

I had a bad year, and would sit outside and cry sometimes. My d'Uccles would all come and sit in my lap and try to comfort me. Drove the cats NUTS. They thought it was THEIR job to comfort me. d'Uccles hens are the sweetest birds there are.
Nothing can make you smile faster than 3 -6 birds and 2 cats all trying to get in your lap at the same time. Georgie finally gave up and flew onto my shoulder and murmured in my ears. Ther are NO chickens with voices like d'Uccles, either.

I have a quad of lavenders, and they make all lavender EVERY time.
Lavender x porcelain threw different colors.

We experimented on it for my DD's science project.

The pictures of your MF is so very "in focus"

I have five roosters and one hen. The hen seems very sweet. She is Lavender, the five roosters are lavender and porcelain. I hope to acquire more hens. I know I do not want to keep all of the roosters but hope to wait until they are older before I decide who goes and who stays.

Have you noticed any difference in personality between the different colors? Are their personalities like the other breeds, some are friendly and others not so depending on the pecking order etc.

The hens for the lavender & mille are VERY sweet. One lav hen is a little nippy, but that's more a search for treats and not meanness. She's lowest on the pecking order.
My butterscotch d'Uccle hen is very flighty and not the usual temperment. I got her from somewhere else and am hoping her babes are more settled.

Most d'Uccle roos are sweet when young, but get a little persnickety when they get mature and start to worry about their flock. My Mille roo has been beaten up twice by a dog while protecting his girls, and is AWESOME at watching for hawks and other dangers. He has bitten me a few times, but only when I'm close to the hens. I tolerate it from him because I know he's got a high defense instinct. When I pick him up he's as sweet as can be, and very patient.
That said, I have no tolerance for meanness in young cockerals. If hugging doesn't calm them down then they go to freezer camp early (and feed raptors at the rescue center later on). d'Uccles are meant to be sweet birds!
