D'uccle Thread

You're a little far away for me

I have a batch of chicks I'm raising until September so I can pick new show birds and sell the rest at the show. If you look at my BYC page you can see what the parents look like. They never fail to win at show, even though they are getting 'old' for showbirds. My roo is gorgeous, but scarred up from battling a small dog to save his girls. The hens are soooo sweet!!

Your roo is BEAUTIFUL! And the girls are so cute! Will Mills continue to get more white with age or what he has is all he will get? She wants to show him as her 4-H project next year so we definitely need to learn what the standard is in Mille Fleur D'uccles And find the poor boy a girlfriend. He chicken dances our daughter all the time!!

Actually the end of August, we are heading to Alabama and going through TENN...who knows huh? Might have to convience hubby to make it September and include a detour.

Thank you! Yes, I'm very proud of my boy.

MF d'Uccles get more white on them every time they molt. That's why I tend to keep the dark, mostly solid brown ones with black trim when they're about 2 months old.

If you pass through near Knoxville in August, let me know. Maybe we can work something out

the three up top are D'Uccles....looks like maybe 2 males and a hen..could be wrong..early yet. the males tend to be a little darker when younger...that being said..I am NO expert. I can only speak from MY experience.

I hatched out two in my first incubator batch - one was practically blonde and the other one "normal" kind of dark with a blonde head - they ended up both being cockerels, so I'll have to see how these develop. If I go by comb development on these I've got three hens. Time will tell though. I was more curious about the variation in coloring. The parent D'uccles changed so much over the year I've had them, I can't wait to see how these turn out. oh, FYI the black chick in the last photo is an Andalusian from the same incubator batch. I cropped him out of the other photo.

Pippy - those foot feathers on your blue roo are out of control! Nice.

Full day at the fair but so glad I came back to read and relax before calling it a night.

I just looked at our route vs where you are and it's only an hour off route. I might just take you up on it and hopefully a lil insight to this fantastic breed.

Cool! Give me a head's up when you know the dates, so I can make sure to put it on the family schedule. I have a DD starting high school and in the marching band, so I'm expecting life to get more crazy than usual LOL.

Chicnfarmer, you have some cute babies. Mine have always had a wide variety of early colors, but eventually the brown pushes the black to where it belongs.

Hi there --

At what age do d'Uccles usually start showing good spangles? I've got a batch of gold-necked d'Uccles from Ideal, and most of them are not showing much at all yet.

Approx 1-2 months for mine for spangles. If anyone is interested I have some eggs in the auction ending soon.

Here's more pics:

The last picture is of a rooster hatched from my flock's eggs who is approx 4 months old.

Unfortunately, these pictures were taken with my I phone- but all within the last 3 days (my nice digital camera needs new batteries and won't take rechargeables I've found)

I'm new to this thread..thanks to Jenski she's my "worst" friend whenever I go to her house I end up with the most wonderful new birds and this week was no different..I adopted both of her gold neck boys they are just so pretty and love their personality so now I need some non hatchery ladies to go with them. What I really need is a 12 step program after driving nearly 600 miles round trip for a few chickens yesterday but I will settle for some real nice gold neck pullets
