D'uccle Thread

His comb is kind of a funky shape and not sure on the points, but as said earlier you can breed out of that with the right hens.
Are you getting porcelain girls for him, or breeding to the mf's?

Hard to see how his tail & foot featehrs look in the pics. Color looks okay though.

His comb is large, I wished I'd known then what I know now....but for $3, what the heck, it could be a winter bird for the 2 gals I have (MF) and no, I don't have any intention on breeding them. I understand people do, and for Chickenstocks and what not, I might, so many people want this breed now, but my main objective is for show. Its a little bird that I just adore seeing them run across the lawn towards you. Little clowns are what we call them.
This Por boy, Moe, was in a bit of a scuff with another rooster and I guess he was the loser...no one or two tail feathers, foot feathers look ok, and his comb is big. I hated to say fight, but it was a scuff for dominance.
I am in hopes to be hatching por gals and MF birds. With any luck. Or maybe someone here....in the spring....

We (meaning I) have an issue where I am trying to breed Standard Cochins and D'uccles and its in limited space in the poultry buildings. I have until spring to figure out por/MF D's or Standard Cochins. *sigh*

We are still trying to ensure that we have enough room for all of our Chickens/Ducks.

We have already had 3 hatches of D'Uccles this year. Now must have room to house them to see which we want to keep. No auctions until spring.

I currenly have 5 4X5 coops set up with D'Uccles in them with 1 Roo and 4-5 Hens each. Then we have our other breeds.

one has the lemon with 4 girls, tow lavender boys with Mille Girls to try to improve the type and tails of them, one coop with the original trio of mille's and then the odds and sods coop that has 5 roos and a couple D"Uccle X Silkie hens. They are all set up for egg collection when they start laying again.

Snow was starting to fall today. Not staying but it is a warning to get it done now.

Could you post some pics of your Duccle Silkie hens? My freind has some and im going to look at them this weekend, she said one is actually silkied...which is interesting! I would love to see yours!

Here are th ones I had in other posts.
This is back in the spring, she is now laying and looks good. I will have to see if my dauther has any new pictures of her. ( I know she does.)
The feathers are so soft. They aren't silkied but very soft. She is black but with White / Silver lacing on the hackle feathers.

This one is from a White silkie hen and the Mille Roo at the bottom.

Hen sitting on the clutch.

Now mind you, I have no idea what I'm talking about but when genetics are mixed, the coloration reverts to black and white/silver.
Like I said, no idea about this, although I've had line breeding that has reverted back to b&w.

Now Doug, crossed with the silkie, which gene is dominant? The silkie with the 5 toes or the D's 4? (either way, looking forward to seeing photo's as they grow.)

I'm getting D Uccle eggs! I'm getting D Uccle eggs!

Lori, aka wegotchickens, has one sensational setup with her flock. Too hard to resist!

Thanks again for letting me visit and meet the family and the flock. What fun we had that day!!
