D'uccle Thread

The blues are not yet sweet little boogers. They are still at that, "EEEEkkk!! It's the big giant hand coming to EAT ME!!!!' stage of life. Especially since a couple of buddies were snatched, photographed, and then returned to tell the tale of horror.

It was in the 40's Saturday as I shoveled out the coop, so I put the young 'uns in a temp pen to clean their space. It was fun watching them learn that grass is tasty, leaves make cool crackly sounds, and chicks can't run through hardware cloth even if they run real fast.

The Big Giant Hand was not as scary when they started to feel a bit chilly and wanted to go back to their warm home.

I can tell my d'Uccles are mature when the BGH becomes a source of treats and not an invader to their space. The project birds have turned that corner, and are getting regular manna pro as a result.

Wow. I really ought to clean my camera card. We're at 617 and I'm still waiting for it to get to the pics I took the other night. Be back later to hopefully post some of them!

I'm mad at the work computer, because it won't let me edit the pics and crop out wasted space. Grrrr.
And a little surprised because one blue baby looks to have gold lacing in the pics, but I never noticed it when looking at them. Gonna have to take a close look tonight!! Since Midas is their dad, gold is not out of the questions. But should gn x lav = gold-laced blue???

Oh yeah! I just realized that the mom of some of the project babes is also the mom of the blue babes. Interesting.... Guess there could be lacing indeed!

Whites (playing in snow made Orion's foot feathers look crummy):

Project boys (before the fights broke out):

See how there is 2 colors of gold/yellow on PartiBoy?
I deliberately kept 2 of the blackest boys, but you can't tell that now

Good looking kids Lori! I love the blue, with or without the lacing. AND,....the more I watch PartiBoy mature, the more I think he is a lemon! How old is he and does he have lighter lacing on breast/under body?? The whites are GORGEOUS

Lori, Can you explain what you are breeding for with your project birds? Since I know nothing about genetics, I would love to know how ya'all are making things happen. If in fact it is a trade secret

I understand. I just love these birds! Excited to learn more.

Lori, the blue babies are gorgeous!

If the one does have the lacing and it isn't just the pic, I really like it. What does their mom look like?

I am still in love with your whites. So beautiful.

I do have a question for you Lori. We are taking Midas to a show next month and he has a white tail feather with black on it, should I pluck that before showing him?

Hi A.C. I know you aske Lori this question, but if it helps, then YES, pull that booger outta there so it's not SHOWN at the show

Lori, you can take over now...sorry

Take over any time LOL

AC, he won over all my other birds with that black showing. In the standards I think there are allowances for a touch of black, but will have to go back through to confirm that.

Not answering for her, but Lori has a lot of nice project birds and regular birds. I have some of the same "projects" going on, but you wont go wrong working with her or birds from her breeding

Currently I have black, lemon, lavender, mille, porc, white genetics working in my lavy program, blues with bronze, and lavender mottled, black and blue mottled, then creams and splash/GN.
