D'uccle Thread

THANKS Lori!! I am waiting on my first hatch....Seramas. Went into lockdown last night. I totally understand the Christmas thing. I have 2 teenage boys. Gets kinda crazy. I look forward to the pics.

but congrats on the Seramas. I used to have a handfull of them for a while, but they are such delicate little birds requiring a lot of special attention (especially during winte months) so I placed all mine with a little girl who comes and gets her 4H birds from me every year. Sweet little birds, kinda hard to raise. You do know you'll have to crush up their chick food in the blender for the first 3 weeks or so after hatch, right? Also you will have to dip their beaks for several days into the water before they will do it themselves. Hope this helps some.

Take over any time LOL

AC, he won over all my other birds with that black showing. In the standards I think there are allowances for a touch of black, but will have to go back through to confirm that.

Thanks Lori and Gypsy. I actually like the feather. It isn't solid black, as you know Lori, but more like peppered.

Oh, and when the NPIP testers were here the other night drawing blood, they were in love with Midas and the butterscotch girlie! She didn't have blood drawn since she is too young, but they oohed and aahed over her. Midas was a perfect gentleman while he was being held down and getting his leg band. He wasn't happy that they were "manhandling" his girls though!

Ya know AC, I feel rather STUPID now that I realize the feather is black. I thought your comment stated a pure WHITE feather in tail, thus I said PULL IT! Feel free to just

me when the mood strikes you! Guess I need to learn to keep my

. I think Midas is gorgeous, so just dont listen to me and my old febal blabbering. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Thanks Misty. Lucky for me I have a friend who is a Serama breeder and he has given me all kinds of good advice and even let us visit with his hatchlings. I just pray they will hatch, really out of my hands now. Good development though and incubator is holding steady.

Of course I would choose the most fragile eggs for my first hatch. Hoping the next hatch will be d"uccles!!!!! If I can find any eggs.....

Lori is the closest breeder.....nobody around here has any d's at all.

I like to dream big. I feel kinda silly that I never noticed the gold lacing on those blue babes before now. When I looked at them I realized the photos don't really show just how much of it there is. I'm trying not to get my hopes up on having anything special, since these have more molting to do before we see a final color.
As I was paying more attention to the babes last night, I also noticed one of my goldneck chicks, a cockeral, has no white on him yet. he's an an even, dark gold, like a Buff Orp color on a d'Uccle. I don't know if he'll stay that way but I sure hope so! I really don't have room for more boys, but he'd sure make a great addition to my butterscotch dream!

I don't think it shows in the pic but Orion, my white boy, has a tail feather with the black speckling over about an inch of the feather. I laughed when I saw it, because it made me think of Midas. So Orion is 99.9% perfect, too.

Carolyn, I have had Seramas in the past. They were too flighty, and my favorite cockeral had a thing for d'Uccle hens, so I had to sell them. But if you can hatch & raise Serama you'll do fine with d'Uccles. I wish I could promise to bring eggs to the winter shows, but no one is laying right now. Well, the lav girl is laying, but she's not been with Orion long enough.
And when she has been? I'll be hatching those
wink.png
(note to self, see what white x lav= )
(another note to self, I need more experimental babes like a I need a ginormous hole in my head)

But, if the millies start laying before the shows, I'll bring those eggs with me.

That's super, so you already know the ropes with Seramas. Nice to have a mentor/friend to help giude you through your first hatch. I always loved my little guys, but they just aren't the 'right breed' for ME. I'm sure with all of us on here we could hook you up with some eggs

I have a large project pen right now who are laying and I've set an entire bator of just them. If I knew what you wanted I would try and help you find it. If your interested in the possibility of none-show-recognized colors from a project, then I may be able to help you. Just a thought, but please keep in mind I cant "Guarantee" what colors you would hatch

Would love to hear more

I am totally smitten with the d'uccles. Especially porcelain. My son has aquired this little Serama as a show bird. I do really want to show, but am open to hatching options. What projects are you working on? I am hoping some d's show up at the winters shows near me. So far I have yet to see more than 3-4, and those belonged to a child that wasn't even going to keep them. I also know someone who had a beautiful pair of porcelains, but she wouldn't sell them to me because I couldn't keep the roo. They were gorgeous! So, here I am....waiting on Serama to hatch and desparately seeking d'uucles.

Where would we be if we did not dream and had no visions working toward a goal?

Personally I like your blues, nice depth of color and appears to be pretty evenly distributed. I'm sending a pic of my 'dark lav' girl who (after seeing your blues) makes me wonder if she's possibly one too. I was in a hurry today and just snapped a quick pic, so forgive the terrible shot. She has no lacing other than darker lav/blue. See what you think she is Lori.

Orion is beautiful, speckled feather or not. I dont think you really need him, matter of fact I'm sure you dont even like him!!

Soooo just print a label stick it on a box with my addy,...I'll take care of him for you

As far as the whites and lavenders...I believe this is how I got my lavy mottled girl. Pure white hen (masking what ever color/patter may have been there) by lavender roo masking porcelain (I think). Will be interesting to see how you progress with this project.

Got to hit the shower and get ready for comp party, but will be back later to check in.

Pullet...blue or lavender? She's only about 48-wks old here...will have to check to be sure.
OHHH, check out her blue eye Lori???

Thanks AC...she's a sweet girl and is 4-8 weeks old, LOL, not 48wks

me and my silly typing-spelling. I swear this laptop hates me, it *spellZ* everything wrong...sheesh

What does she look like to you, dark lavender or a blue?? Would love input and opinions.

I must also correct my 'breeding statement' with white x lavender...the lavy roo that was bred to the white girl was masking mottled, NOT porcelain as stated. My bad, sorry guys.
