D'uccle Thread

It would drive me nuts, too. I have my babies in a brooder in my living room, something I SWORE I would never do! So much for that...

Drives me crazy too. The worry, but if they are also with a broody hen or mamma, then they should be ok Cyn, mine always have been. Then again, I've swore off the laundry room before and ended up using it, so

I hope your babies do well. Please keep us posted.

If it was another hen, I'd probably have tried to break her up, but Nugget is a fabulous mom. She keeps the chicks a long time, not like my crazy Blue Orp hen, Dusty, who tries to kill them once the maternal glow has worn off. The last chick left with Nugget back in the spring lived with her till he was 14 weeks old and went to a new home.

One of the little darker ones is noticeably smaller than the other two D'Uccles. Got one quick pic with better light by holding the heat lamp out of the way and letting the flash take over, but they weren't all posed that well or even in the frame good. It just needs to be warmer so they will be able to run around more.

Currently, though, her head looks like a porcupine.

Hopefully that will pass soon!

Ok, for you guys that have shown these. Are judges looking for good foot feathering on the middle toe, or just the presence of feathers?
