D'uccle Thread

...nope, your not the only one....just don't tell anyone that we are such softies!!!

Not alone at all.

I have one millie hen that insists on sleeping outside 90% of the time. It was 100% until the really cold nights when I dragged her in and then locked her in with everyone else. Now she comes in sometimes, but acts sheepish about it when I tell her how smart she is.

teddiliza, thanks for the opinion on TNB. I really like him, he's been a good little guy, and I was afraid that was clouding my judgement. He takes good care of his girls and it's really funny to watch him trying to make them come eat treats when there's more than one pile of the treat food! Sometimes I'll peek in, and he's got his head down in the midst of some of his girls, and they are all just cuddling and murmuring to each other

Your porcelain babes are pretty! The one you're keeping looks like he has more blue to him, and a better comb. Very nice!

It's killing me that I can't get out there to my babies! They're going to be so skittish by the time I can. Gosh, the little cockerel will be crowing by then!

DH takes care of all the birds when the ground is as slippery as it is now. We got about 9" and it's still flurrying! ARGH! I want to look at the other two very closely. I'm 100% sure one is a pullet, but it looks so much like the other one in color, we got them mixed up and I wasn't at all sure of #3 D'Uccle.

Guess I'll keep our whooping 5in...9 is just to much for me. Then again, 2yrs ago we had 22inches of snow fall in less then 72hrs, so!

That's so nice and sweet that your hubby is so willing to help you out. Mine builds pens, ect, but he's not a lovey-dovey chick type like your DH seems to be. Lucky lady you

Hard to tell just by color (for me) at this age, but by looking at the head structure I would agree # 3 is a little girl. I hope you end up with a nice little trio, that would be super.

speckledhen, maybe it's time to have tiny HOUSE CHICKENS!!! Muah ha ha ha haaaaa!!! You can cuddle them any time you like . . . feed them grapes while watching TV together . . .

You've gone that "indoor" road before, so you know how much fun it is, eh! Bet ya still have the playpen . . .

LOL Been there done that Jen, these 3 "house chicks" went out on the insulated porch at 4 months old...OYE!

But if you cannot get out Cyn, maybe its time to bring them in on a porch like I have, or basement. I feel bad for you guys getting nailed, at this time of year you guys are usually making the North envy you with a few green patches. Its horrible and Cabin fever is the absolute worst!
As for buying birds, like with Chickenstocks, folks are coming in hordes to buy buy buy, so if you want cream of the crop, I'd say fairly early.
Well, off to my turkey & Swiss sandwich, chickens are lucky as they get all the baked beans, mixed veggies, bread and beets that were left from the weekends dinning. They will Love this. How are your D's, do yours eat a lot of fresh foods? These 2 hens I have will eat some green, bread and cracked corn, but avoid most other things.

Can't wait to meet you BYCers!!!! Wish you southern folks could come up!

The closest I'll ever come to a house chicken is my crippled BR rooster, Zane. He has his own playpen for when he gets out on our deck or comes in the house to watch TV. I'm pretty close to bringing him in now since he's been in his cage for weeks due to the bad weather, poor baby.

Just wondering if everyone received their tracking numbers regarding egg purchases? Please let me know as I can resend it.

<--- Back to silent lurking mode here too I guess...
