D'uccle Thread

Here is some newer pictures of the occupants of the Lemon coop.

Hens one mille fluer, one Blue mille fluer, and one goldneck.

And a new picture of the lemon boy. What do you think?

click on the images if you want them bigger.

I think that his comb is a bit big so we will see what hatches out at F2.
being paired with a splash goldneck and a blue I should have a good chance of getting a blue lemon Mille fluer at f2.

I will see if I can get some pictures of our Blue Mille's.
We keep them together unless I have projects on the go like the Lemon project.

Your Lemon boy is very cool! Thanks for the blue mille fleur pic, but when I click, it doesn't take me to a bigger version but a screen where you browse for a pic to input.

It's interesting to me how large the single combs are on such a small bird, especially the roosters of this breed. It just seems so big in comparison to the body size, at least to me.

Doug, your birds are just lovely! Wish you were closer to TN.

Are you growing out any lemon hens, or is this what you are working on?

Off the current subject a bit, but is anyone interested in working with me on my "Silver" MF program? If not, that's fine but I wanted to throw that out there. Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm.

That is what I am working on now.

I got the roo last year at an auction and the hens with him have not started laying yet this year although some of the others are starting to lay again so maybe soon.
The F1 will all be normal Mille fluer ( or blue mille fluer) pattern but split for Lemon.
If I take the pullets from that crossing back to the original roo or if I can keep strait the eggs hatched from a specific hen and cross to each other then I will get lemon mille fluer, or blue lemon mille fluer.

Gee, I'd do it but my DH would move out, LOL. This winter is about to do him in, caring for all the birds by himself (after breaking my ankle January two years ago, he doesnt want me out in the snow and ice). Honestly if I had more free space, I'd love to help with that. Do they already have that color? Do you mean Silver Quail, or something else? No, wait, that's D'Anvers, not D'Uccles.

I'd love too, but I'm strapped for space.
Living in a subdivision ain't no fun sometimes.

I laid in bed last night thinking of ways I could expand without buying another shed or aggravating DH. I couldn't think of one. As it is, to do what I want to do with what I have, I will need to build a temp grow-up pen and put some nest boxes in the former grow-out pen. I play musical chickens a lot at my house....

I find myself tempted to scrap the goldneck & butterscotch breeding, so I can focus more on the project birds and variation thereof. But they are sooooo pretttttty!
