D'uccle Thread

hi all im new to this lovely d' uccle life! Just wondering if i have 4 little peeps how big of a coop do i need? do you let yours free range?

So far I have only one hatched out. It is cute as a button but bigger than some of my bantam Cochin chicks so this should be cool. I have a lot more eggs to hatch out.

I plan to raise mine in tub brooders for a while and then later switch them to a rabbit hutch that opens into a small run. I probably will bring them up to the house to live close to us instead of down at the barn with the bigger birds. They like to get out and free range, I have read and been told so I would like to give them the opportunity to get some running time around the front or back yard without any big birds or ducks trying to be mean to them.

I still will want to be vigilant with watching for hawks though my LGD is doing a fine job at keeping them away. I just worry that these will be easy for the hawks and falcons that observe from across the street.

Hi All,

I'm new to D'Uccles. I've been a bantam cochin person for years. You may have seen me post in the Cochin Forum.

A friend of mine convinced me to try a new breed, so here I am.

In a moment of insanity, I ordered a bunch of D'Uccle chicks from Strombergs, which is totally against my usual avoidance of hatcheries.

I now have D'Uccle chicks in mille fleur, white, porcelain and self blue.

I'll be posting pictures of these chicks as they grow out, in hopes that your experience will help me as as I choose the ones to keep!

Three out so far with 3 more pips! So far it looks like 2 blues? and one yellow w/ stripes down the back. I will post pics once they are all dry!

oooh, congrats, Carolyn! My Beau is a man now-I caught him mating Lizzie. Then, as she (and everyone else) was running away from him, he crowed and crowed....and crowed and crowed and crowed, LOL. Typical teenager. They are 16 weeks old now.

Silly boys!

I know it's very premature, but any idea what color my babies will be? I assume the 2 dark ones will be "blue"? What about the yellow ones with the stripes down their back?

Thanks for humoring me
