D'uccle Thread

Im so sorry for your loss. One of my milles and a silkie were killed last week. We came home today to find the dog who did it running off with our new 20lb bag of cat food, its a giant boxer. He was carrying the food like it was an empty bag and it didnt weigh a thing. So if he meant to kill our chickens he wouldve ripped the cage open and killed them since he has enough jaw strength to do so. I am feeling better now that i know the truth about the dog that killed them. It wasnt his fault they were so scared and died of heart failure. My mom is very mad about the fact that he eat some of the cat food though, so hes in big trouble if he comes back and gets into something else.

I hope you feel better soon and good luck getting some more whites, they are on my list when i get more money.

I'm so excited! I'm new to keeping chickens, and after some research I've finally figured out what my mystery chick is! A Millie Fleur Belgian Bearded d-Uccle!

She's a wonderful little chicken!

Yes they are very sweet! I have so many chicks growing up right now it's crazy (for me). I've got 20 porcelain teenagers, 5 porcelain chickies under a broody mama, 6 mille fleur teenagers (2 are hatchery but looking nice) and 10 eggs under broodies. I could not believe I had all 3 of my adult mille hens went broody and all 3 squished into the nest tub. Tomorrow it's going to be 90's so they can't be sharing body heat like that! I let all the broodies have a max of 2 eggs-- as I have way too many chicks right now! If it didn't take forever for the d'uccles to get their adult colors it would be easier choosing. But right now, I just get to enjoy! Well, enjoy except those teenage rooster hormones!

Thought I'd go ahead and share a couple pics of my 7mo Splash Girl that I've promised to get pics of for a while. It's just really been 'crazy' the last couple weeks, so I apologize. Anyway these show her color pretty well, but my 2 younger girls arent showing much color yet. Hope everyone is doing well

I just hatched a ???black chick???? This baby is the product of either two lavenders or a lav roo/"splash" hen. She would be the splash version of the blue MF. This chick isn't the same black that I would see in a black cochin chick, but it's WAY to dark for a lavender at this point. Do they ever molt out to be lavender? I'd love to hear if anyone has had anything like this. As soon as my camera's battery is charged, I'll put up some pics.
It's more the color of gun metal gray or even a little dark than that. It really is almost completely black.

I was originally told that Buffy was a Buff Brahma, but someone just said she looks like a D'Uccle.

Is she? If so, what color would she be?

Oh my goodness yes it's a d'Uccle. My vote is on a blue Mille Fleur. It's still young and doesn't have all of the adult coloring, but it looks like it's going to be a very cute blue MF. Oh, and by the way it's a he, a little cockerel.
