D'uccle Thread

This is my 4-month-old porcelain d'uccle cockerel, Charlie. He is such a sweetie! I will try to get pics of Portia, his girlfriend.

curious to follow this and see if it works, because Marek's is a death sentence, there is no known cure for them once they get it, but death.
If it does work, I'd sell the idea to a poultry lab if I were you, you'd be a millionaire.
Vaccines at hatch is the only thing for it so far, once contracted, that's it though....so far??

Well, being a virus, I don't believe that it can be cured. But like you said, if they survive it...then you have another set of issues, but resistance can be a blessing. So far, Ricky the little guy that I gave the herb (and I gave him the WRONG herb- gesh) but he is able to walk, he does carry himself on his hocks, but like I said, he can get straight up and waddle along.
This poor guy was a good week prior to him coming back to me, the little girl (great, break another heart!) and her dad gave obviously wonderful care and where I'm home all day, I took him to make sure he drank and ate, of course with 2 millie siblings, he saw them and bonded. Mind you, just the day prior to my getting him, I had 2 pullets drop dead from it.
What I found interesting is I had millies with outer toes that turned in, like a birth defect, not sure if it was or not because 10 had normal feet, 15 did but are functioning normal. None of those Millies have been affected.
Now I just hatched out 2 millies with 9 RIR, 1 standard Cochin, & 1 ? black clean legged standard. The first chick was upright and lively, yet it began to go down hill, and died in the night. I put him in a plastic dish with 1 chick so to have company. In the night had another millie hatch, and like the last one is doing well and was in company of hatching RIR.

With all that said, I am still working on my millies as it is great stock and with this much going on, I would never think of sharing eggs or birds- that would kill me as I felt so incredibly bad with this little girl. I was up front, honest and on the phone with him, and it did my heart good to know that he went to other bird owners and a poultry farm (I hope he didn't step near them) and we all said the same thing, having that reputation of being responsible is only a feather in your cap.
Sorry for the lengthy note, but this other stuff Hypericum sulfate, 1 sublingual tab, I gave almost 1 tab 2 times a day for Ricky the millie, and on the side of the homeopathic bottle its for stuffy head & cough (please don't quote me as I'm NOT that bright!) and with this mixed up weather one of my millies had a bit of a mycoplasma cough, I gave it to her and it quieted down! So, it was not a waste of money and may have found something for that too!

Here are a couple pics of our Millie D's (these cuties are fast, so not many great pics! LOL)

The girls might be camera shy, but Humphrey certainly isn't!

The group eating, I parked him up by the yogurt, he moved down to the food and water.

So beautiful, Spook!

Here is my number one handsome fella. I got my eye on him as a keeper though he is a wild one. His brothers are more likely to come to me and one I do not care for the looks on is an absolute doll. Naturally.

These are only a few boys I have in one cage. The girls are in 2 other cages and some other boys that are being re-homed are in yet another. Boy, to be so little they sure get into a lot of messes. If there is a dirty spot out in the pen they find it and get it all over them.

So far I am enjoying these boys a great deal. There are a few girls are that sweet but wild, too. With these being my first ones I am enjoying learning all about them.

Nadine and the others that have posted photos of D's, it kills me that I don't have enough time, space and feed money for this breed. We just put ours outside in a "hutch" , the neighbors old rabbit pen and we bleached & painted with a sealer. Then added hardware cloth and everyone seems pretty darn happy to be outside!

...and mama's happy they are outside too!
