D'uccle Thread

That's different! Maybe they sent you another color with your porcelains? Do you have pics?

I don't have pics (yet) but I can! I'll get on it.

I just hope they ARE D'Uccles.

Okay, had to figure out how to post pics and then snap some (will get better later, if needed). As you can see, there's very little in the way of a beard and the pattern on the wings is definitely not what I expected from a 'porcelain' anything! At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if they aren't actually splash cochins. A simple confirmation that they are indeed d'uccles would make me insanely happy!

Thoughts?

They remind me of the white Columbian bantam Cochin chicks. Their heads are a bit different from mine but I do not usually have many of the Columbians and bloodlines can make a difference.
And my silver laced may have feathered out like that but I only hatched a few and did not watch them feather up. They do not look like the pattern but again, different bloodlines will give you different results.

They really do not look like the d'Uccles I have raised up but this is my first year of the breed. And I am not sure there would be any color in d'Uccles that feather out like that. But if they are like the other breeds I raise then there are always experiments in getting new patterns and colors.

However, they sure are cutie pooties!!!

I bet they will be flashy no matter what pattern they turn out to be!

Just cam back from vacation to find out for sure blue's a roo! I've fallen in love with this handsome boy and am trying to convince him to never crow so I can keep him! AHH!

If they're standards, I'll be rehoming them. They are cute but we can't fit them. Only had room at this point for a few little bannies and we researched extensively before settling on D'Uccles (though Bantam Cochin was a close second).

My Cochins have longer and more sloped beaks, not as pointed. IMO - You should be able to tell by the size if they are standards, and if they are cochins, (hopeful) you will not see the vulture hock and that begins at a few days old where a Cochin of all sizes don't.

Good luck! Pretty babies regardless, wish I was closer if they were Std Cochins. Sending D'uccle energy your way!

Hey Guys! I just received some D'uccle eggs and have a question - how do you tell which is the pointy end of the egg? Both ends look rather pointy to me. The breeder I purchased them from comes very recommended on BYC and she told me to look for the end that has bumps or ridges. That would be the pointy end. Some have bumps and ridges but some didn't. Is there another way to tell which end is the pointy side? Thank you for your help!!

PS: Mods, I wasn't sure where to post this question since it had to do with D'uccles bui it also had to do with eggs. So please feel free to move it to the correct place. Thank you.
