My d'Uccles from Teddiliza are super birds! They have been maturing well, really easy to work with. They always jump onto my arms, head and shoulders when I open the cage door and let me scoop them up without any problems when they have flown down to the ground to check stuff out. I make sure everyone gets morning or night kisses as I handle them twice a day to take them outside and then back into the barn so since they were about 6 weeks old they have always had me touching them. I smooth their feathers and tickle their cheeks. They have been very good birds.
Some of the others I had hatched have not done as well and of the 4 breeders I started with Teddiliza's are about the only ones I have left with maybe one roo and 2 pullets from another breeder. They just were not very hardy.
I color tagged them all at hatch to make sure I keep up with who came from whom. The one roo that is not from her is kinda mean. He makes sure he bites me every time I pick him up so that just means he gets extra hugs and kisses, much to his dismay. He isn't really mean, just aggressive. It is barely a pinch but he thinks he is showing me who is boss. He also is the smallest and lives with the girls because of this.
The 6 big healthy boys that live together are wonderful. They are around other girls of bigger breeds but never give me lip about going back into their cage for the night. I don't get attitude from them at all. And they love me to pet them and whisper in their ears. Boys are easy to spoil but the girls are good, too. I have 2 MF girls that are super nice, one more so than the other.
I have enjoyed owning this breed so far and they have been easy for me to deal with. I can't wait until this heat is over so I can finish their condo and get them out of the barn.
