Jessica, your coop is beautiful! I love it................I'm sure the birds do also. It looks like they've got it really good with you. I'm so glad you've got them.

looks like it could be buff or maybe golden neck. i'm thinking more on the golden neck. cause main tail feathers are creamy white, undercolor is creamy white, and plumage is primarily golden bay tipped with a creamy white spangled. so i think it is a GN d'uccle it is a very pretty bird.

They do have beautiful coloring, no joke about that! What keeps them from being show quality?

i figured like showing any animal color isn't everything you need good conformation to. i showed mini horse for a few years and my mother got out of the mini business, i figured it be the same, you need great conformation and color as well. i haven't got the standard of perfection book yet to start to see what i need to conformation on birds. if they are show quality great. i will get manna poultry conditioner as well and see what it does for them. my first roost i incubated came from these to, i also have more in the incubater ready to hatch. i'm pleased with my flock just needs some fine tuning.

Well, my chicks are now three full weeks old and I have several whose combs are noticeably bigger than others. They are so cute I don't know how I'm going to let go of extra Roos! How ell do the Roos get along? Is there a chance I could have more than one roo in a pen without fighting turning deadly?

You can show any bird, and even win depending on the competition! But of these 2 the hen hasn't got much on her middle toe that I can see, although her coloring doesn't look too bad. Too much white for the standard, but judges seem to be into dots these days. The roo has too much black on his shoulders. Can't really tell about his feet.

milliefleur's other boy has way too much white on him, not enough black spangling, and his brown should be a darker mahogany.

If they grow up and stay together, it should be ok if you have enough hens, as they'll have established a pecking order growing up. They do tend to challenge each other a bit for the top spot on occasion, but not as much if they are from the same hatch I've noticed. But if you separated them and tried to introduce them later when they are older it could get ugly. All my d'uccles are going through a late molt, I sure hope their feathers grow back in time for the show next month! Normally mine all molt in August. I like to keep the ones with the best personality first, and no major flaws, then hold on to them for about 4 months to see how they grow out for color and confirmation.
