I have a set up with Facebook but never go there. It is not a set up I enjoy getting around on so I just never visit. When Our cavy club moved over to Facebook my DD and I dropped out. It is an absolute pain for us to work with. I know a lot of folks live on Facebook but I just can't see how great it is.

I am on a lot of the Yahoo groups but they seldom get the chatter that the threads here on BYC do so I am here most of the time. Gotta love BYC!

Is the chicken breed that is exactly like a D'Uccle except non-bearded still considered a D'Uccle?

I ordered 4 Mille Fleur D'Uccles(straight run) and 2 of them died

But the out of the other 2 that survived I got a male and a female. The male didn't have a beard. But the 2 that died and the female that survived all had beards. So is he still a D'Uccle?
Right now both are healthy and happy. They're 6 months old now.

Part of the problem is that I had old hens and very young pullets (everyone I really wanted to bring preferred to molt). Some of the pullets had uneven color. The older roo, TN, was ticked off and laid in his cage and refused to look pretty. Especially after someone said he was too dark (which someone else disagreed with and there was a 'discussion' about color). One of my cockerals carries his tail too high. But only when he's showing off, which is aggravating, because shows are all about showing off (a photographer thought he has the prettiest tail feathers of all the d'Uccles and took a lot of photos of him. Anyway, I bought a roo that doesn't carry his tail as high, and he is more red than mine. So it would balance nicely. I was also told that the judge wasn't as knowledgable about d'Uccles (there were some major issues with goldnecks in the junior div- he marked them as blues mf).
I listed some of them for sale, as I'd planned to downsize for winter anyway. They sure sold quickly! So they can't have been that bad, I guess

So I leave IN tomorrow with 4 birds less than I brought, a miracle in DH's eyes.
I have a bunch more due to hatch shortly. He doesn't know this....

I will raise all winter and keep showing and selling next year. Hit another big show next year and see how I do then.

In the meantime, I do plan on starting a club facebook page now that I am unofficially training to be a club officer. I know some peeps don't like fb, but I have quite a few international friends and it would be nice to get linked with some of the Booted & d'Uccle breeders in Europe. I've got Karl fired up about the website, so there may be a few changes soon. We'll see.

He already has his form filled out for Newport, TN on the 12th of Nov, bringing 27 birds. He'll sell some of those, too. If anyone in the area wants some nice Booted Bantams, come to TN next month!

My Pet Chicken incorrectly describes the differences as only in the beards but in order to keep the breeds pure and folks exhibiting them at shows correctly education is the key. My Pet Chicken also shows them with rose combs where our standard plainly says a straight comb.

I am not nit picky about them but I also abhor seeing breeds falsely advertised.

I am sure yours are absolutely gorgeous and loveable. And we hope to see photos of them soon!

I agree with you Amy. People are confused enough as it is , they don't need people making it worse!!! For me, I'm always telling people:

Booted Bantams: Fluffy feet and no beard, with floppy decent sized wattles. U curvy shape

D'uccles: fluffy feet,cheeks and chin, teensy tiny almost nonexistent wattles. V shape (like a checkmark)

I'm not a big fan of wattles, so I love how the d'uccles have teensy tiny little things, that are kind of hidden by their beard.

I've noticed an issue with my porcelains earlobes, I swear some of them are looking bluish white and I am sitting there squinting thinking "Are those just pale from laying or do my hens have off color earlobes". Ah well. Now I am going to have to start paying closer attention to my roosters. I figure if any of my boys don't have red earlobes, then I'll know for sure!

Both of my boys in their 'solitary' confinement are starting to behave, until they see the other chickens, then they want to be bossy again. One of them 'King' is my mille fleur with the deep almost mahogany feathers (total babe) I think he's going to knock some socks off next year after his molt.
