Nancy, it was great to meet you at Crossroads!! I do love putting faces and voices (and even real names) with BYC handles. Hope you had a great time and a safe trip home!!

Yes, it was wonderful. Now when I see your handle, I see you, much nicer. I had a great time, safe trip, it couldn't have been better. Hope you had the same.

I had a wonderful time and learned a LOT. Only way it could've been better was if Ronnie Tallent's son and wife had come to the show. I would've loved to see them and let them know in person what a special man I found Ronnie to be, in the short time I knew him.

Although the calculator says black or if you use blue mille fluer, 50% black/ 50% blue.

As you can see that is not exactly what you get. But they are all split for Lavendar and for mottling. So when put back with Self Blue you will get Self Blue.
And if put back with a Mille Fluer you get a whole lot of stuff some looking like mille Fluer and some not.

All depends on the genetic background of your specific birds. Out of 50 eggs hatched we only got 1 solid blue and 1 solid black.
But that is just our stock we used two different lav roos to see if it made a difference but it did not as they both came from the same source.

Great info. Thanks everyone!
I love it when we can discuss stuff like this. I may not be breeding it but it is fun to read the questions and see the answers. You never know what the future will bring so it is all a great learning experience.

Hey ya'll I've been wanting to add to my d'Uccle flock, but I seem to be looking for a color that is almost impossible to find? Does anyone know anyone who breeds the buff (not buff columbian) d'Uccles? I so want some of those little sunshine spots for my flock!

I like the buff color, too. I thought I saw some photos of creams but maybe they were just faded buffs. I really love a cream colored bird. But then, I think I like about any colored bird! I am just crazy like that!

I heard that there were buff d'Uccles somewhere in CA, but have not seen a picture to know if they really were truly buff. At one time there were apparently a lot more of them, as well as brown/red and columbian. These colors are now described as 'lost'.

None of them were accepted into the SoP, though.

While I was at Crossroads I attended the ABA meeting and learned more about what it would take to get new colors admitted into the SoP. They're changing the guidelines to make it more economically feasible. That's good news for those who want to breed some of these colors!
And another reason to keep the club strong, so we can stay organized for such a venture. It's recommended that at least 5 breeders work on new colors as a team effort. Not just to produce the numbers of birds needed for exhibition for admission to the SoP, but also to preserve the breeding/color lines should one breeder have a catastrophe (hurricane, major predator, theft).

I love the cockerel(?) in the very last picture! With the black and white markings--what would/is that coloration called? Mottled? Does that color exsist now? I want some....
