Although the calculator says black or if you use blue mille fluer, 50% black/ 50% blue.

As you can see that is not exactly what you get. But they are all split for Lavendar and for mottling. So when put back with Self Blue you will get Self Blue.
And if put back with a Mille Fluer you get a whole lot of stuff some looking like mille Fluer and some not.

All depends on the genetic background of your specific birds. Out of 50 eggs hatched we only got 1 solid blue and 1 solid black.
But that is just our stock we used two different lav roos to see if it made a difference but it did not as they both came from the same source.

I love the cockerel(?) in the very last picture! With the black and white markings--what would/is that coloration called? Mottled? Does that color exsist now? I want some....

He is not a mottled we also have a black mottled Cockeral and a blue mottled Pullet.

We have 3 like him and kept all 3 to see how they turn out.

Please show more pictures as they grow. I really like that coloring!

I have some black mottled pullets (you can see some head shots on my BYC page). Hope to add a nice black mottled rooster this spring from the same breeder who sold me my pullets. She has blue mottled too. The blue mottled are also very pretty! I'm just starting out with d'Uccles (never had poultry before) and really do love them. These discussions on color are so interesting.

That is so true.
As a member of the American Cavy Association and an exhibitor/breeder, my daughter and I had to learn how to conserve some of the more rare varieties in her breed. Some breeders had the few colors she worked with but there are others that were not bred very much and we had a very rough time finding those breeders. We had Guinea Pigs flown in from many different parts of the US. Sadly, now that DD has grown up and may be going away to college she has stopped breeding the rare colors and the lines are once again fading to nothing. No one wants to take over the breeding program so these colors may become lost, too.

It is pretty much a lifetime commitment when you work on a breeding program and sometimes life just gets in the way.

Good luck!

I have 2 pipped under a hen that I am hoping make an appearance. Silly hen got off the nest after they pipped so I put them under a different hen. Then mom #1 wanted to come back, but I made her move to a new box.

I have a very young mf, who barely started laying a month ago, setting on a nest of eggs. She's doing a pretty good job, too. I moved all the other gals to a new pen since 7 is the most the little mf can keep tucked up under her. They should hatch in 7-10 days. I do so love baby d'Uccles.....

I have 7 d'Uccles that I believe I am keeping in the house through the winter. Shhhh...we aren't telling DD who has cleaned up the house so nicely.
The kids just hatched recently but are growing quickly. I am pretty sure Moonchild is keeping his in his house all through the winter, too. They are from the same hatch but he took the MF while I kept the Porcelains.
I accidentally dropped some meal worms in the brooder last night as I was sprinkling a little bit of wheat bran over their scratch. they went wild. But it was so fun to watch tug of war and I am going to try and get some video today to add to my website.
