D'uccle Thread

Hi everyone. I have Gold Neck D'uccles. I have had Millies and Porcelains in the past as well. My GN Roo died and I am looking for a replacement. I am hoping that there is a chance that some of you breeders can sell me one if you have an extra GN cockrel or roo. (Or two, even better) Thanks everyone!

Do you have any eggs. They will stay fertile for up to 3 weeks. I'd be willing to take some eggs off your hands.

he looks like pq. his feet dont look that feathered but that could just be the pic would need one from the front and closer to him. same on his beard, it doesnt look that full. as far as coloring i'm not sure about the coloring. i do know if he has any all white feathers its a disquilifcation.

Probably pet quality but where'd you get him from? Maybe he has some SQ genes running in his blood, never know! I thought white feathers were only a d.q. only if there are 2 or more on any one area of the chicken. I thought it was in the SOP but now I can't find it.

Thanks HDowden, for the informative link. Ill inspect him tomorrow for white feathers and Ill take a better pic of his feet. Im waiting to see how my mille pullets come out. Ill breed him with the best of the 3 i have. I got him from someone that got him from a hatchery(no idea where). Hes the best and most protective rooster Ive ever had though. Not aggressive at all and always alerts and saves the snacks for his hens

If I were you, I would try and get a hold of some better quality stock, I know they are hard to find though. I would like to see the pics. of the actual adults they are breeding out in the hatheries. It's all about who lays the most number of eggs I'm sure. As long as the chicks look like d'uccles, they keep their customers happy. It's what the chicks develop into after a few months that is disappointing. It's too bad because they are flooding the market with sub-par birds.

The SOP says that "booted and d'uccle bantams came to this country in the Mille Fleur variety from Germany but were also very popular in Belgium and England". Wish they were still that popular here in the U.S. 90% of the ones here are nothing close to what the breed really should be. I've had people drive over an hour and a half to come pick up babies because they are so hard to find here in FL. Most people want chickens for their eggs and the d'uccles aren't bred for that reason. Hopefully the economy will get better and people will begin to appreciate this ornamental breed.

Another thing, it seems like some people go through phases where they get interested in the breed for a bit, then switch to something else

Keep it up my fellow D'uccle enthusiasts!
