Thanks for the pics! I'd love to see how they develop. I really want to improve my Milles this year, and am going to have a hard time trying to figure out who gets to be 'Daddy' The one that has the best color patterning is a naughty boy and more aggressive than the others. He started out fine, but tried to flog me one day at which point he got sent to solitary. He has a good beard great coloring, but not so great foot feathers. My sweetest one that isn't missing the black chevron doesn't have very clear chevrons, they are kind of blurred looking. I guess I will just have to try out each boy next year and see who gives me the best chicks. That means more hatching than planned. I will have to get some pics so you all can compare and give me advice. I would like to get some nicer coloring in my milles this year. Hence joining the club, which hopefully will mean some guidance and finding out if my gut instincts are in the right direction vs way off. I'm going to have to get serious about keeping track of who came from which daddy. My first thought was to take my Mille roo and put him in with the porcelain hens next spring just to get more Milles. Of course they will all have mixed genes down the road, but I figure Mille and Porcelain are fairly safe to mix, and maybe I'll even end up with something really cool. I am going to keep 'Bo Diddly as my main breeding porcelain roo, since he has the best personality and looks and colors with age. I will sell some of the younger boys next spring. Babymama is one of my best hens for personality, and form, but her offspring are getting the one missing claw gene. Unfortunately I hate to put her in a different pen just for that reason. She will be my favorite hen for long past her laying ability.

Lori, I am glad you are getting involved with the club and learning so much, being in the right geographical area! I am thinking I need to come visit your state in 2012!

Thanks HDowden, for the informative link. Ill inspect him tomorrow for white feathers and Ill take a better pic of his feet. Im waiting to see how my mille pullets come out. Ill breed him with the best of the 3 i have. I got him from someone that got him from a hatchery(no idea where). Hes the best and most protective rooster Ive ever had though. Not aggressive at all and always alerts and saves the snacks for his hens

If I were you, I would try and get a hold of some better quality stock, I know they are hard to find though. I would like to see the pics. of the actual adults they are breeding out in the hatheries. It's all about who lays the most number of eggs I'm sure. As long as the chicks look like d'uccles, they keep their customers happy. It's what the chicks develop into after a few months that is disappointing. It's too bad because they are flooding the market with sub-par birds.

The SOP says that "booted and d'uccle bantams came to this country in the Mille Fleur variety from Germany but were also very popular in Belgium and England". Wish they were still that popular here in the U.S. 90% of the ones here are nothing close to what the breed really should be. I've had people drive over an hour and a half to come pick up babies because they are so hard to find here in FL. Most people want chickens for their eggs and the d'uccles aren't bred for that reason. Hopefully the economy will get better and people will begin to appreciate this ornamental breed.

Another thing, it seems like some people go through phases where they get interested in the breed for a bit, then switch to something else

Keep it up my fellow D'uccle enthusiasts!

I will keep it up for as long as I am allowed to own chickens!
I was really wishing one of us had the $$ to import some stock from Australia or Europe!!! Seeing some of the pictures of their d'uccles makes me have something to strive for!

2012 will be a good year to do so. I am assisting the secretary of the newly formed TN Vally Poultry Club, and we will have 2 meets in 2012, plus a state fair on the same site, plus the 2 shows in Cocke Co. So that's 5 d'Uccle meets for earning points at!!

I'll post some dates as soon as I get confirmation on them all

Still looking for a show quality self blue rooster. Also would like to have a few high quality mille fleur hens. I have a few blue mille fleur cockerels I would consider selling if any one is interested.
