D'uccle Thread

I'm not real sure what your question here is. If you're wondering if that's a Golden Neck, it's not. Even if it was a Golden Neck it would be a poor one-type is terrible.

The cochin looks awful, very pretty but totally messed up on type and comb and color, very much a mix. Still learning about duccles so can't have an opinion about that yet.

Idk either, but i'd say that given the mixed messages the individual was looking to make more than the bird was worth, or they don't know as much as they thought they did. You just happened to be more educated than the typical buyer, hence the lack of answer. If you are looking for a pure bird, i would say no to this one.

this is what i was thinking but wanted to make sure i am not the only one catching/seeing this....

here's my 2 golden necks from ideal hatchery. they aren't the best and both have hints of black with the cockerel having some solid black on parts of him

For those that know me, I've had mille fleur d'uccles for several years. Friday night, raccoons broke into my pen and killed my beloved rooster Bundle and 3 outstanding hens that were the results of several generations of breedings.  I might need to buy eggs from someone that has good stock, as these were really good quality.  Bundle was SO friendly, he won 1st place at the State fair and they even used him as the ambassador with the kids.  I feel awful.  I have his sons...very good looking cockerels but I need better quality hens.  Please PM me if you have good SQ birds and are willing to ship me eggs.  Money is not an issue.  I'm very upset over this.  Bundle is the one who originally inspired me to show my mille fleurs.  My heart is heavy right now.

Wow I'm so sorry to hear that:( hopefully u can recover with some good hens. The pullets I've raised from Nathowes eggs are pretty nice.

Having lost my 2 best roos this summer, I really feel for you, Nate.
Is there any way you can come to TN on Oct 20th? There's a show then, and I have some youngsters I'm thginking about selling. I've never shipped though, and not sure I'm ready to try. But it would be nice to meet in person, and maybe get you jump started on your new flock.

Thanks dsfrango...you have some of Bundle's offspring. Lori, I would like to make it up there...work might make it hard to do. Bundle can never be replaced. I might have to buy eggs from you Lori. I need to keep this line going.

Know the feeling. The hawks took off with everyone of my Blue Mottled babies. Left the 3 mixed d'Uccles. This is the season for the coons, this is when I've lost most of my birds to them. I think the mothers are training their young to be chicken killers. Sorry about your loss Nate.

Really I didn't know that was bundles offspring! Well thank u bundles..

And agreed on the coons this year...a lot of them. But I've been lucky this year. Not 1 lost. Had a fam of coons clean my trap out without setting it but luckily i caught them on there way out and took care of a ma and 4 teens. Cleaned em out. Gotta have a live trap to occupy them

I too lost multiple chickens last year to coons. Probably around 20 or so - I lost count. I finally chased them down over the course of several nights with my coon hound (seriously, how awesome is that?). Now that they are gone, I haven't lost any more, but I also now keep my hound in with the birds to keep them safe. It's working out well so far - she's been living with them since early Spring this year.

I used to like racoons.

Now, not so much.

I got an egg yesterday. Don't know who, I would assume it was the Mille that didn't have chicks. But that will probably end since our temperature dipped to 38* that's what it is right now. BRRRRR I need to get a move on this winter thing. All tarps are toast and leaking. I need a better ventilation system in my bantam coops and a roof needs to be completed.

My puppy keeps getting away from me and runs very fast and she is very big, when you think she is going to come to you, she barrels past you at full speed,

so now I need to put up a fence. Should have been out there instead of, in here.

use treats on the pup. tell her to come and when she does do the whole good girl thing give her some of the treat and you could even work on sit and heel to. remember that positive reinforcement
