D'uccle Thread

Anyone know of someone who will sell Bearded D'uccle pullets or hens?

Try putting up a Wanted ad in the Buy/Sell/Trade section. I would be surprised if you didn't get some offers.

Heck, next year I'd offer....

Lea and Coffee... so sorry to hear about your babies. Total bummer. Hoping for the best moving forward.

As discussed before, more baby pics. They are 5 weeks old plus a few days. There are two black and white ones. One has gold leakage on neck and the other does not. So far look girly to me... lets keep hoping.
first pic, black with gold leakage (phantom) is in front.

Phantom is on left (gold leakage) and marvel is on right.

Last picture... Phantom is on left (leakage) Marvel is on right and Midas is screaming roo in the front...

Well.....you do have a pretty golden boy there....sorry!

Would you say based on how ROO ish that he is, would they be hens.. or is it still too darn early...

I am wondering if the golden will be a mille but rather than a brown body base, will have a gold body base. His marking are just on the wings... reminds me of a mille fleuer

I'm sort of fascinated by the colors of your birds, as they do seem different than others I've seen. I'm no expert, though! Can you get some "clinical" side shots of each of them, hopefully standing up and in good light? I think he is a boy based on that comb.

I'm so bummed, my 6 month old blue mille cockeral died yesterday. He had some respiratory issues I was treating with antibiotics, but he didn't make it. My little goldneck pullet is coughing too, and I'm treating her as well, I hope I caught it early enough with her. I should have started treating the boy earlier, but he seemed to be doing alright and I am always hesitant to use antibiotics unless totally necessary. Lesson learned I guess. Last year I had this roll through too, but the antibiotics cleared everyone up and they all made it. It seems like the D'Uccles are affected more for some reason, no one else gets sick, (cochins, silkies and a polish). Any advice?
Sorry to hear. Do you, by any chance, add heat in the winter?

With MG it is usually the secondary infection that kills, not the MG itself. Be on guard for e coli infections! They seem to be the most talked about complication. It can set itself up in the lungs as well. Keep everything as clean as you can while treating, and the water as clean and fresh as possible! (E coli is in the poo, for chickens and mice)

With the coughing also keep your eyes peeled for facial swelling, that is something else entirely and needs to be treated differently. If i remember correct, there will be a nasty smelling nasal discharge for that, too (coryzoa)

Wow, sorry to hear about the recent d'Uccle losses, guys! That's always hard to take :(

I was paranoid for a while because the weather has been so crazy here. Cold and damp. My teen pen acted really 'off' for the first week, and I was concerned I might lose some birds (especially since I was already committed to sell some). But they seem to have bounced back, and are all acting as spunky as ever. Even chicks still in the brooder acted 'off'. Very scary & frustrating indeed!

I do not heat my coop, except when we get to single digits, and I only heat enough to keep the coop in the teens-20's. D'Uccles are MUCH hardier than folks give them credit for, but only if they have a dry, draft-free space to retreat into. I had a pen of birds with a lean-to shelter that went all winter without any heat at all, even in single digits. The pen was all male, and I told them whoever survived the winter got to breed the next spring. Every one of them survived, and didn't even lose a tip from their combs! I was amazed, and found the 'non-keepers' a pet home the following spring.

The biggest issue I have is with rapid changes in climate. When we go from highs in the 80's to highs in the 60's, that's when all of them act a little 'off'. It's just a shock to their system. I lay on some treats, especially a handful of scratch, in the late afternoon for the adults & teens. Because I needed them in condition for the fall shows, I got a bag of "Rooster Booster", which is high-protein pellets mixed with 5-grain scratch. They LOVE the stuff, and seem to be in pretty good shape.....

I'll know more about their condition on Friday and Saturday, as I load them up for the local poultry show!

I hope I'm doing this correctly. I'm really new.
I really need to find a new home for my sweet baby mille fleur d'uccles roo. I do have a sweet pullet as well. They are super attached so I would rehome them together if it was a make it or break it deal. (selfishly I would love to keep her "Little Girl" is her name) I simply don't want them to end up as dinner or him to be a fighter. Our HOA won't allow roos :( I am In ventura county (93065) CA. He/they are about 16 weeks now and very mellow and sweet...but Little Man (the roo) is super loud for a tiny guy and seems not to have his days and nights figured out just yet (he will crow over and over reguardless of the time of day, sounds like a mini trumpet-so cute!!) Please help!! I have just a couple days to find him/them a new home :( Thank you ~ Jen

What pretty little guys. I'd take them in a heartbeat but they would need to be shipped up here, of course. I'll PM you.
