I have d'Uccle babies hatching at this very moment!!! I brought home a 1/2 doz. of mixed d'uccles from Mysticwinds Silkies from the Fall PNPA Double show in October and 4 made is to lock down. So far one is out and looks like a Blue Mottled or a Porcelain, 2 more so far are pipped. They are really due to be hatching tomorrow so by tomorrow evening all should be out

Possible varieties are; Mille Fleur, Porcelain, Mottled, Blue, and Black. Can't wait to see what the other chicks are!!!!
Oh and don't worry, I'll post pics when the little guys are all fluffy and in the brooder

They can be friendly. But, since I have only had one d'Uccle in my life *hehe* I am not the expert. I can tell you she acts like the rooster of my flock. She will start clucking (very loudly, I might add) when I step outside, and when I bend down to pick her up she runs around like a maniac. But, I still love her.

I would definitely recommend this chicken to people. But, I would hand raise them

i would totally reccomend them they are so friendly and adorable
only chickens i have who want 2 be snuggled and hugged
they have so much personality

* I have to say my D'uccles are super friendly! I have two that I purchased from a breeder at around 3 months of age. The oldest one was very flighty when she first got here but after awhile she (and her sister) calmed down and (the older one) should be laying any day now!

* I can't recommend this breed enough!

(P.s) I have D'uccle eggs due to hatch in a week, (Mille fleur, blue and black mottled) can't wait!!

I got 2 from a private breeder, those 2 would sit with me for hours probably if i let them! I got one girl and one boy. I let my booted bantam raise them, and they are still friendly! They are very eager to go into their coop at night, and stay close to it and it's safety during the day. They also are a bit smaller than the hatchery ones? Not flighty at all Not only do they eagerly come running for treats, they will come poke at my legs to be picked up, and will go to sleep in my lap if i let them! I fell asleep this summer in the shade with my lawnchair and i woke up with them sleeping beside me! lol. These ones i can walk right up to and pick them up, as long as i don't scare them Their booted banty "momma", not so much as she is terribly shy.

So if you have a chance to get them from a private source, do it. If not, there is a chance that they may be friendly anyway. I have noticed that my hatchery ones are the first to get sick, though, so i'd strongly recommend shopping around.

The only flaw in them if there was such a thing, is the foot feathering. You have to keep a decent layer of bedding down, and probably have sand in the run to keep the feathers from getting soiled. They will dust the whole coop with their poopy feet otherwise, and since they want to be held you really want to have that bedding down!!! This "problem" is easily remedied though so not really a big deal.
