I think I've added a photo we will see. This is where our MFN duccle s live. I want to know how best to keep the boot feathers from breaking. Is there a link or a different thread? I am thinking I need to make adjustments to this especially because we are in muddy Oregon. Any help

If you are letting them outside try putting gravel, sand, hay down or make sure they are on thickly grassed areas with few bare spots. I live im somewhat of a muddy climate 2

It was a chick and with 17 other chicks. Not a delay, actually came early. It was long dead though...

Was it the only bantam? Maybe the others trampled her

How do you keep your duccles so that the booted feathers dont keep breaking? Can't seem to find the answer... We were excited to finally find live birds from a apa breeder but now need a bit of info.

I haven't tried (I trimmed mine so they could "free range" (supervised) I would assume deep bedding is a must, and perhaps someone will speak up about feather softening treatments? I've heard about caster oil, i believe? Something that was done regularly to show birds to keep the feathers more supple.

No, She was with two others and they were fine. I don't know. I just wish she didn't pass

The only way to prevent feather breakage is to keep them penned in, but I hate my birds being cages, so...
