D'uccle Thread

The guy I bought them from had three pairs, all of which looked the same. I picked the pair that had the best feathering. He said one pair won overall grand champion in bantams at the fair. I plan on showing them.

do you sell eggs im making a list o f d'uccle breeders and the colors they are selling so i can get eggs off them.i \need to hatch some more colors and bloodlines. i just went and got some regular chick food and a bunch of other chicken vitamins and stuff at tractor supply. my other hen wuth wry neck is getting better i have her in a hamock type thing i made so she can keep her head straight also massageing her and giving her the vitamins hpoe shes better in the morning
Glad your girl is doing better.

Yes, I sell eggs but not til Spring. No one is laying now.

the ornamental contest is almost over once i find at least 2 more judges. i am going through the list i have and there are no entries for some breeds. if you want to enter now is your chance to do so. thank you (please if you enter more than one bird use seprate post for easier judging and try to include at least 3 pics from different angles)

Quote: His comb is WAY too big.
Quote: Thank You
Quote: According to the ABA bantam standard book, the booted bantam should have a "slightly long neck, covnexly arched" whereas the d'Uccle should have a "medium length, convexly arched" I'm thinking this is why there are so many "long necked" d'uccles out, the hatcheries, may have some together and the result is long necked and wattled d'Uccle's

I was told that gamebird was fine, there is gamebird starter and gamebird grower. My local store worker said as long as the protein is decreased at 8 weeks (to the grower) that it is ok. Too high of protein gives gout and kinky back, not wry neck! That could be a deficiency in the breeder's diet, but if you are raising your own chicks that shouldn't be it........................ If you are doing half corn and half gamebird then the higher protein should be ok since they are only getting half the protein.
1/2 and 1/2 doesn't equal 1/2 the protein. The corn is going to increase fat and heat. I only use cracked corn in the winter, and usually only in scratch. Gamebird/showbird MannaPro (this what I have on hand, feeding to my Quail) is 24% protein. Chick start and grow has only 18 %. Flock raiser has 20% and Layer has 16%. Turkeys and gamebirds need a higher protein. As you can see the Flock rasier is high enough to put all types of birds along with chickens so it is not too high and not too low. I was not saying it is what caused the wry neck. I was saying it is too much protein for chicks. Just my opinion.

corn is a carb, not a protein :) Idk, i have my doubts about gamebird for banties as well, i went with what my guy said as i feed it to mine because it's what i feed my EE's.

I haven't had issues yet, but is there anywhere that addresses banties needs specifically? i worry sometimes.

Not that I know of. There are some on here that have their feed mixed at a feed mill. I have always used Layena and just recently to Layena Plus, I only changed on a the birds I was showing, and mixed in Manna Pro Show Conditioner. I don't have any problems with my birds all are healthy. I won't change what works and won't buy because it is cheaper. Not saying you use cheap feed. The guys at the feed stores, want to sell their brand. Mine do the same thing. But I stick to what has worked for me. Come to think about it a couple years ago I did buy Kent Layer and my birds ended up with running poo and egg production dropped. Went back to Layena and everything went back to normal.

i thought that diet would be the most likely cause as 2 chickens got the same thing a day after the other. if it was the gamebird i have them on electrolyte water vitamins and regular chick food. need the gamebird for my button quail eggs that should be hatching in 2 wks of all goes well. i have them under a hen though. i have never had this problem before though.
