Hi all, im new to coloured birds. Have only had solid colours before. I have rescued a D'uccles(new breed for me) rooster: have fallen in love with the breed, but have learned he is not show colour standard. Do i still use him? He looks a bit like a mixture between silver duckwing from OEG colours and a black mottle. His structure is nice, he has a pleasant temperament. Is it worth perseverance to breed something nice from him? I have since arranged a number of hens for him, millefleur, lavender mottle, porcelain mottle, and black mottle. I am not familiar with what the best move forward is...does he move to the rooster pen, or would I be able to use him. Only two hens are old enough to lay eggs, so i have time to make changes.

Hi, sorry nobody's replied yet. Maybe nobody quite knows how to answer this one.

It sounds like he's beautiful. If you aren't interested in breeding to the SOP or for showing your birds, just breeding for beauty, then I'd use him, as it sounds like you'd like to. :)

If you are breeding more for SOP, then I'd post pictures of him and maybe your others in our Exhibition, Genetics, & Breeding to the SOP forum.
