Whats the duck to drake ratio for calls?
That’s a tough question. In my experience, Call ducks are a little different, in that they often pair up or choose preferred partners, small groups, more so than bigger ducks. And they tend to stick with their chosen partners. Not to say they won’t mate with others, but the over-mating doesn’t seem to be as extreme with calls. It depends on the flock, really. My drakes do fight a little with each other, and sometimes gang up on certain girls, but it never seems to get too bad. I’ve tried to keep drake numbers down, but I always seem to end up with barely more females than males! So 50/50 to 60/40ish for me hasn’t been disastrous. I currently have 52 calls, and I think around 20 or more are drakes. I keep wishing one of my hens would hatch a bunch of girls, but their hatches always seem about half and half. Just my experience, some may disagree, but I’ve never had major issues with lots of drakes.

This has important info on keeping our pet waterfowl (and other poultry) away from wild waterfowl since Bird flu has been reported now in one state in the USA. https://www.wyff4.com/article/wild-bird-sc-confirmed-bird-disease-detected-hunters/38773931#
Thank you so much for this. Being in NC, I have been in freak out mode since reading about this last night. Especially with Calls calling other waterfowl in, I had no idea how to keep my flocks safe. I was looking for this information without success, so I sincerely appreciate this ❤️
