Well I was unable to follow Little Bib yesterday so I didn’t see where she went. She still has not returned. I think she’s sitting on a nest but I really wish I knew where it is. We have so many predators around. I walked laps around my entire yard looking under everything but haven’t located her nest. Hoping she comes back to eat soon and I can put her in, or figure out where she’s nesting. :fl

Aw, hope she comes back!

@WVduckchick any advice on finding a missing broody. I’ve got 5 acres that she could be on and I just can’t seem to find her.

Hopefully a camera will help! But they hide really well! My broodies that nest outside their pen often come back to the others first thing in the morning. Sadly I’ve lost them that way, to the early morning predators. But if you can watch right at daylight, to see which way she comes from, might help you locate it. Or try to follow her again next time you see her with the others. But the big key is to pay attention to her mate(s). My boys often stay within watching distance of their hens that are sitting. So while you are walking around looking for her, keep an eye on her drake. He will start to notice when you get close to her. He may even try to circle you, and alert to her that danger is near! Best of luck!!

I checked the eggs of my girl under the boat last night. Looks like within a week. So I set up a new line of electric wire to connect the spot where she is to the rest of the yard. I still have a fox family lurking around and though she is super quiet, well hidden, and cautious, I’m afraid the ducklings would be quick fox food. Hopefully this temporary deterrent will work. She ducked right under it last night when she went back to the nest. I’ve been “escorting” her back every night lol!

Thanks for the great advice! I knew you’d be an expert on the subject! Luckily she just showed up! I followed her and found a giant nest in the bush under my window! I don’t know why I didn’t find her earlier. She is a sneaky little thing! :ya:love

Hope your broody has a good hatch, I’m looking forward to pictures!
Unfortunately everyone has to stay in because there’s 2 juvenile eagles stalking them!
Here’s the bunch! Any advice on blocking off her nest? Should I try to rig something up around her? I put a camera out there that will alert me of noise. :)
