All 8 babies made it through their first night. It got really cool, I was a bit worried. But she’s a great mom. So we have 5 greys, 2 blue fawn (one of those might be blue butterscotch?) and one chocolate.

My friends toe punch their Welsch Harlequins.Has anyone ever tried (or considered) toe punches with ducklings, for identification? I remember someone talking about them a few years ago, but have never seen them in practice.
When I moved them I put them in the trough and they loved it. I haven't seen them back in it yet and it is suspiciously clean so I assume they haven't gotten back in. lolI like it!
Splash your hand in the water when they are nearby. They will figure it out.
Oh my! They're even more adorable today! Ducklings are the cutest animal, without doubt. I recently learned a little about the punches and would love to learn more. The wild geese around here have multiple punches in their webs, but I suspect that happened naturally. All 8 babies made it through their first night. It got really cool, I was a bit worried. Don't ever spell that word wrong EVER again!
I wish they would stay little for at least a month more. I love them when they are adults, but you get so little time with them as ducklings.

I've considered it.Has anyone ever tried (or considered) toe punches with ducklings, for identification? I remember someone talking about them a few years ago, but have never seen them in practice.
They are the second largest duck breedBaby chickens take forever to mature (got silkies in Feb...no eggs yet) but ducks are way too fast. It's horrible, they're easily three times as big as they were when I got them.View attachment 2852719
This is Judith, one of the smaller ducklings. She's not even three weeks old and she's about as big as my silkies who are seven months old.
