Those of you that have drakes that molt between nuptial and eclipse plumage, are you starting to see them molting into their eclipse plumage now? My 2 gray Call Drakes are just starting to get a feather here and there on their heads/faces where I can see the eclipse molt beginning. I'm also beginning to see more of their body feathers on the ground. One of my Porcelain Aztec drakes is almost finished molting into his nuptial plumage (similar to Pastel call) and the others are somewhere in the process of molting into their nuptial plumage. Does the time of year cause this plumage change? Is this the time of year that they'll begin to molt into their eclipse plumage?

Lylah says, "Couple? Get these fools away from me! I'm an independent duck. I don't need no drake, until next Spring, and then I suppose I'll allow it, maybe...."

I had to reach out to Nat today because Lylah is NOT happy with the drakes, at all! She's like, "Off with their heads, but have some glue around to mend them come Spring" 😂

My older drakes have already gone through eclipse and are molting back into nuptial.

If you have 1st year drakes it's crazy nuts because they have that juvie molt thrown in there too.
But yes, it is kind of weather/season related.
Calls are spring and fall breeders mainly. They go into eclipse in summer and back into nuptial in fall.
