My older drakes have already gone through eclipse and are molting back into nuptial.

If you have 1st year drakes it's crazy nuts because they have that juvie molt thrown in there too.
But yes, it is kind of weather/season related.
Calls are spring and fall breeders mainly. They go into eclipse in summer and back into nuptial in fall.
Thank you Shaw. It's crazy how drastically their looks change! This also explains my Call drakes starting to be more rambunctious with the girls. This is probably a little dumb but I thought Calls were mostly Spring Breeders and some just happened to in the Fall. I need to get my youngest Calls integrated asap, to help ease the load off Lylah and Faith (not intended to be a pun, but ☺️)

Oh well they never really take a break from corkscrewing.
But they do slack off a bit.
Mine are more serious in early spring but they get to being frisky this time of year too.
But I do not want ducklings heading into winter.
Nope nope.

Well, I guess "use it or lose it" applies. It seems to take the drakes forever to get "it", so I can understand why they don't take breaks. Poor little girls are like "What's taking so long up there? Are you about to figure this out or what?". Lylah and Faith aren't laying yet, so I guess this is all practice ☺️ If they started laying, it'd be just my luck that we'd have a cold winter. I wouldn't want that on Pekin ducklings, so I definitely wouldn't want it for Calls.

This is Della, my one and only Australian Spotted Duck (Greenhead). She "identifies" as a Call duck though ☺️

So sorry for the time away! I’m back and I need some intervention…
I now have 5 silkies that have hatched and call ducklings on the way! My broody is on day 21! She has 9 eggs. I have a single assist currently. I ordered a show quality pair of whites, a show quality of black East Indies, and I have another show pair and more hatches to come soon! :th:love
Some might call me a duckoholic/ quack-addict 🤣

1st: p.s. I swear the eyes on this assist are gigantic! 🤣

You are a quack-head for sure!
One of my broodies gave up, so I moved her 7 eggs to the incubator. 5 quit, I think they had cooled off too long, but 2 are still hanging in there. My blue bibbed’s duckling are due very soon, I checked a few of her eggs a few days ago, and estimated this coming weekend. The black bibbed, I have not even checked hers, but I’d say they are close too.

Omg😂
I just spent like an hour looking at call ducks on the internet. Then, I saw a picture of a standard. My first reaction was "Ew!", They look like their faces have been stretched out🤣
YES! I am used to only seeing Calls. You can imagine my first reaction every time I see a standard lol.

I love my ducks, but for a little while now they're going to disgust me. I have to get some calls, it's horrible to only see them but not have them😭

I think I'll go with eggs (pretty much the only way to get em anyways).
