Do you have too many ducks?

The ducks have finally stopped molting. As you can see, one duck is far more balanced than the other... 🤣 🤦‍♀️ (green is our boy, purple is our girl) Willow and Birch.

Haha no, they are pretty aggressive. Maybe ISF 2022. I'm hoping to hatch some ducklings from them. Their duckling from 2019 and 2021 won the Iowa State Fair (ISF). Pretty impressive for ducks that are almost 3.
Lol. They looked so sweet in the photo not feisty!
I’d love to see a picture of their duckling if you have one. That’s great! 😍

That's a big clutch! Impressive that she's able to cover them all. Good luck with the upcoming hatch. When is the approximate hatch date?
Yeah, I didn't think she'd be able to do it but I haven't seen any sticking out of her. I can't remember, I'll have to check my calendar tonight. I'm pretty sure it's only a week or so from the other ones though. Hopefully I'll remember to check and I'll let you know then.
Just looked at my calendar and they're due to hatch 22/11. Hopefully all goes well. She tried to sit on eggs once before but got off after a week and we lost all but one duck by the time I got to them and there were 20 then. I don't know how she sits on them all, she's only small. She must pile them up a bit I'd say.

My girls are doing great! I haven't had any illness or injury for a few months now. My avian vet might have forgotten the sounds of my voice. I'm so relieved.

Pigweed grew back almost entirely new colors after her last molt. It's so funny she looks like a different duck. Her winter outfit usually has a few red and black feathers, when she's typically mostly white, but this year she went crazy! She looks like a real welsh harlequin! I'll try to get a photo tomorrow.

I'm struggling a bit. My dog got diagnosed with lymphoma tonight. We've been at the ER all day, and are waiting to get him back now. I think we are going to do chemo for him.

Thank you for asking. 💖
My Buff duck grew in some darker than normal feathers on her head and body, along with some smokey looking wing feathers recently. That's so odd that I keep hearing about so many ducks doing that this year.
I'm so sorry about your dog. Hopefully the chemo will help. Is remission possible?

I had the same thing happen to most of mine too. One molted before everyone else in the summer and whitened a lot. I thought out here, it had something to do with the smoke reducing sunlight. My newest Saxony ducks molted into their adult molts that remind me of drakes at first. And I kept thinking, but they quack. Those dark feathers really made me nervous for a good week.

Tom, my Buff duck (her masculine name was already stuck before we realized she was a girl) had a molt early summer that resulted in quite a bit of white feathering. Must be something with the sun or something. I thought it was so odd that she'd get brand new feathers to molt all over again. I guess this is 2021 so that's an explanation in itself, right 😜

Sorry I couldn't get any photos of Pigweed's fancy new feathers today. I was waiting for a call from my dog's vet all day and we don't have great reception outside. So I stayed in staring at my phone. The ducks are probably bitter about how they missed out on their foraging walk today. They have an amazing aviary, but they are pretty entitled.

@CoriM Rye is doing worse. My poor dog. We're hospitalizing him overnight and miraculously they are able to start him on chemotherapy treatment tonight. After they start chemo they can start steroids, which should help his symptoms. I hope it gives him some relief. If he doesn't feel better soon we'll say goodbye.

@HeatherKellyB Yes, he can go into remission for a year - and that's what we are hoping for!!
