Have you ever candled a duck egg? They have a swirl look to them, so I assume they spiral somewhere along the way.

Have you ever candled a duck egg? They have a swirl look to them, so I assume they spiral somewhere along the way.

As I recall the hardness of the shell happends before that part. This more upper gland gives it the shell. So it wouldn't have those swirls to go through a swirly "vagina" like some water-park slide. I can immagine that this part works in a way where sperm can swim through; but on the other side has the same contraction/polyp system that helps the egg come out like in our vaginal or testinal canal. They sure look like having contractions when egg-laying or out intestines do when getting a chunk of brown food-residue through on a lower contraction scale. This is the entrance and exit of all the other stuff that happens more above. Not the shell-making part. Just an maze-like birth-canal (before entering uterus) if you try to compare it to humans. Please correct me if I am wrong someone.

Ducks have kind of a reproductive arms race going on, don't they? In some species, the male's, ah, anatomy, can be nearly as long as the rest of him.

Lol, yes, and there are some amazing pictures that show this.

This is potentially a dumb question, but how does a duck egg get out without getting snagged in the spirals or trying to go down one of the blind ways?

I read somewhere that ducks or maybe waterfowl only have one ovary is that wrong?
