Duck and chickens - intro

I think we have a match made in heaven... Donald paired up with his ducky (that was quick!), they waddle around together and the chooks keep to themselves. There's a bit of quacking, clucking and chattering going on in the mornings when I let them out and in the evenings just before the sun goes down. Complete silence during the night. This morning she let out two long loud quacks when I startled her, otherwise she quacks quietly and vocalises less frequently than Donald. Don't think I'll get any noise complaints from neighbours for that... and then there's always the option of bribing them with some delicious eggs. :D

Can someone tell me if the head swinging in dipping motion is some sort of courting ritual they do? They were both doing it this morning by the water bowl. It looked more than just morning face washing.

Yep mating ritual going on there, so happy to hear things are working out and Donald has a friend for life. They need a kiddy pool.

Our friend who took care of our ducks & chickens over the weekend while we were away. He found the first duck egg this morning. It's larger and more pale than the other eggs we got so far so I'm pretty sure it's a duck egg.

He also observed them this morning and after a bit of confusion Donald did his thing with his duck lady and got very excited about it. There's even a short video of him loosing virginity:

Our friend then left for the day and we returned in the late afternoon... only to find the backyard turned into a mud pit. There was mud on the walls of the house 1 metre high, mud on the doors, mud on the window, entire ground area soaking wet, giant holes dug up everywhere, **** everywhere... my dear husband was initially shocked when he saw and then lost the plot. It's kind of funny but not really  looks like we had a duck orgy.

Found 3 eggs this morning! Two chicken eggs and one duck egg... yay! I think we have a lift off, production line operating at full capacity.

I found my first chicken eggs today 24 to be exact found out my six leghorns had been laying for 4 days now, now im just waiting for my other 12 chickens and 6 ducks to start
